About fifty tickets were sold at Loup City for the State Fair this year. Evi dently Loup City did not show her loyality to the event she has shown in years past. Twenty per cent off on Wall Paper at the Loup City Paint and Glass Store. The special over the B. & M. last Sunday from Sargent to Loup City on account of the ball game between Scotia and Loup City, brought about 100 fans to the city. John Zimmerman, who had been visiting his brother, A. L. Zim merman, for a week or two, left last Friday for Marquette for a visit over Sunday and from thereto York to the U. Gillette, who has been here the past two weeks at the home of W. O. Brown and meeting numerous friends, returned Tuesday morning to his home at Batavia, 111. Of course the Northwestern follows him to keep him posted on Sherman county affairs. Mrs. Etta Swanson returned Mon day evening from her visit with her sister, Mrs. Marcel Youngquist, at Waterton, S. D. Miss Birdie Lofholm remained for a longer visit, but will probably be home the latter part of this week. Mrs. Swanson visited at Omaha and Ulysis, en route home. Mrs. George Stork and children left for Kearny last week, where the fami ly will make their home in the future. George will follow them later, when he has finished a lot of work he has under contract. Mrs. Mary Hull and Mrs. Mary Ban ister, mother and sister of Mrs. Burr Robbins, arrived last Thursday from Denver, and expect to make their future home in Loup City, and have rented the Wm. Rowe cottage in the north part of town. Mrs. Banister’s health not being of the very best, the altitude of the mountain city was not thought of benefit, hence their com ing to Loup City and lower altitude for her health. Mr. Henry Capellan has recent ly returned from a trip to an ir rigated district in Colorado, and has left at this office some samples of wheat and oats grown in that country this season, that are little less than wonderful. Wheat is the Best The agricultural department at Washington gives out in its report of the crop season that the winter wheat of the country is in the bumper class, being 1-4 per cent better than last year, and 1-3 per cent better than the average for the past five years. Com is way below expectations, standing the lowest in percentage at this time of any time for the past ten years. While oats fall below the aver age for several years it is so little below that it is scarcely notice able. Barley falls off about ten per cent over the average for the last ten years. Rye shows up good, the quality being a few points better than for the past ten years and the yield being about equal. Other cereals about hold their own forformer years. Stork Visitations.
