Miss Byrdee Needham returned
home from her visit to various points
in the state last Thursday, and is
now assistinn in the First National
Bank temporarily, during the absence
of Mr. Hansen and family to the
mountains.
We omitted te mention last week
of the departure of Mrs. Geo. Kettle
for Grand J unction, Colo., last Thurs
day accompanying Mrs. Keeler and
daughter Pearl that ter on their way
to the Pacific Coast.
Mrs. A. H. Hansel returned last
Friday from Rome, New York, where
she went a feto weeks ago to be at the
bedside of an aunt, who was quite ill
and also to visit her girlhood home
and friends. She left her aunt im
proving in health.

Henry Miller worked in the harvest
field near Ashton last week, and this
week is doing a like stunt near
Schaupps. Just how our big fat
friend can stand the intense heat in
the fields these days is a poser.
Mrs. Vic Johnson returned to her
home at Harvard, Nebr., Tuesday,
after a fortnight's, visit here with
parents and brothers.
Frank Gappa left Tuesday morning
for Spooner, Wis., where he goes to
look after some land he owns in that
section. He does not know how long
he will be absent.
Our readers will miss the news from
Route 2 this week, but in so doing
will remember Carrier Conger and
wife and their sad visit to St. Louis
A dandy little rain visited this
section again last Thursgay, but not
enough by a long ways. However,
every little helps.
Mrs. Tom Ward or Webster town
ship gave a party at her home last
Thursday afternoon, her mother,
Mrs. S. A. Pratt, and Mrs. Dr. Hend
rickson being the guests of honor.

Mrs. J. W. Conger received a mes
sage last Thursday of the death of her
father that day in St. Louie, and the
following morning, Mr. and Mrs.
Conger and little daughter left for
St. Louis to be present. at the last
sad rites to the beloved parent.
Miss Birdie Lofholm and her sister,
Mrs Oscar Swanson, expect to go to
Grand Junction, Colo., and the lakes
near there for several week’s outing
about thfe first of next month. We
envy the ladies the splendid time they
are sure to have.
E. M. Vaughn of St. Joe, brother
of our Joe Vaughn, arrived Tuesday
of this week for a few days visit with
him. Mr. Vaughn is in the employ
of the Burlingtod at St. Joe as bridge
superintendent Qf construction. He
is a very pleasant gentleman to meet.
Henry Musser arrived last Friday
from Parsons, Kansas, for a fort
night's visit here. He reports his
parents and sister doing well and en
joying life in the Sunflower state.
Henry says he had got ahead on his
farm work and thought he would
come and visit old friends and old
scenes for a little while.
Will Mulick and family left last
Thursday tnoon for their home at
Ogden, Utah, stopping off at Grand
Island for a few days en route- Will
says when he gets settled down to
work again be is going to have tbs

S. A. Pratt and wife were over
from Hazard Tuesday, appearing be
fore the county board regarding his
license for a pool hall in that village,
which was granted by the board on
the completion of the publication of
his application today.

The weather the past few days has
been extremely sultry, the govern
ment thermometer registering from
l00 to 101 above. Tuesday evening
after supper it was still 97 above,
while as late as two o’clock Wednes
day morning, with all the doors and
windows at the Milburn open and
circulation the best obtainable the
pulb registered as high as 87. Never
in the memory of old residents Of this
section and indeed all over Nebraska
has such temperature been shown
during the months of June and July
in any previous year as has been
shown by the record of these two
months pamed. ,
