The next number of the lecture course will be given next Monday evening at the opera house, and will be a lecture by the well-, known and popular lecturer. Newton Wesley Gaines. Mr. Gaines gives two cel-1 ebrated lectures, “New Wine in New Bottles,” and "Brain and Heart." but just which he will give on next Monday night we have not learned. | However, both are said to be great and most interesting literary treats. The revival services at the Meth odist still continue to attract large crowds and an increasing attendence. The meeting will probable continue over next Sunday. All sensational features of the modern revival efforts have been kept out of the meetings and just good old-fashioned services are held from night to night, and judging by the interest and attend ance, the above kind of meetings have not lost the high esteem held by the chuich-going people. The Annual Farmers Institute will be held in Loup City, Feb 22, there will be a basket dinner under the auspices of the Domestic Scienc club in the basement of the Methodist Church. Bring your family and don’t miss a session, Mrs. Davison, of Lincoln, will give a demonstration and lecture in the basement in the afternoon. Mr. O. Hull, of Alma, and Mr. J. D. Ream, of Broken Bow will present live topics to farmers in afternoon and evening. Remember the date Feb 22nd and lay your pians to be there. Program next week. Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Zimmerman write that they will start home from their sojourn in southwest Texas on the 11th instant and will reach Loup City on the 16th. In another col umn this week will be found an in teresting letter about that country. In fact friend Zimmerman is “struck” or “stuck on that country, which ever word will best express it. Guy Stout has been down there with them and left earlier to attend a meeting of cement men at Omaha, and be here ready for business in time for spring work They have a car of ce ment ordered, to be here about March 1st. Dr. Leeper was called to Rockville last Sunday afternoon to preach ttie funeral sermon of Bernice Francis, the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. R. Lay, aged 4 months and 2 days. The little one had been in feeble health in all its shortlife. The funeral was largely attended by the people of that village and the ber eaved parents have the sympathy of all their friends throughout the county. Interment was had in the cemetery near Boelus. The Northwestern has secured the services of Mr. O. D. Ilenyan. an ex perienced job and newspaper printer, and a gentleman who bears the im press of a thorough newspaper man and corteous and kindly, and we be lieve will prove a valuable assistant. We command him to the kindly offi ces of our patrons and will give all mo6t corteous treatment and help us build the paper up to a most excel lent standard. Mr. Henyan is the the possessor of a family consisting of wife and two fine lads aged 9 and 12 years, and they will move to Loup City about the first of May next, af ter school is out for the summer va cation. The ground hog saw his shadow here at Loup City, ail right, Mr. and Mrs. George Cox of Oak town, Ind.. were visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. .T, F.N’ieoson, arriv ing last Friday. and going to Arcadia and Comstock Monday for furthur visit with relatives. Oliver Mason has moved into the Ward Yer Valin property, vacating the Chas. Biehl residence, Mr. Biekl moving to town to occupy his own home. A baby boy arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Malheur. Wednes day. night. Mr. Maiberg is the baker at Herman .1 ung. Grand Chancellor Long went to Hastings yesterday morning to attend a district convention of Knights of Pythias. He was also to visit the Kearney and other lodges before re turning. Mrs. Fred Bock came homo from the St. Francis hospital at Grand Is land last week, where she had taken her daughter. Miss Daisy Bock who passed through an operation for ap pendicitis successfully and left her getting along n icely. Jolly Lon Zink blew in here from Utah Tuesday evening- on a short business trip ancf to chin old friend. He is living some,forty miles north of Ogden and is handling horses for the southern market making Florida with bunches several times a year. He is getting nearly to be a fao sim ile of A. Fa. Charlton in avoirdupois. For a long time past. Mrs. James Burnett has been suffering intensely with pain, which was feared to be cancer of the stomach, and to such an extent that on Tnesday morning, ac companied by her sister. Mrs. S. F. Reynolds, she went to Grand Island to see Dr. Boeder for examination and possible operation. Dr- Boeder at his office gave the afflicted lady a thorough examination, found her trouble was cancer of the stomach which had weakened her heart action and was of such long standing that an operation would be fatal, her phy sical powers being unable to with stand, the shock, and she returned home to face the enevitable. which can not of necessity be of long dur ation. Mrs. Burnett is a woman of exceptions! good qualities of heart and band, and has for friends all with whom she has met in the past, and they will grieve over her con dition. Mrs. Viola Odendahl To Erect Big Hotel The Northwestern is pleased to an nounce this week that Mrs. Viola Odendahl has purchased the corner lots eastof the St. Elmo and will erect a modern and up-to-date hotel thereon. The building will have an 50-foot frontage on Main street by 80 feet north, and is to be equipped with steam heat, electric lights, have 21 or more guest rooms, two-stories in height, wite walls of sufficient strength to stand another story when demand for more room conies. It is to be of brick, with pressed-brick frontage. As soon as architets have finished their plans and the contract is let, the Northwestern will give full details of the enterprise. Space will not allow of further continent this week. Bruised Knee Cap In A Bad Fall Last week Wednesday while Mr. A. 8. Outhouse was at St. Paul, and was hurrying to catch thetrainhome his left foot struck against a grade stake set in the middle of the side walk and fell striking bis full force on the left knee giving it <a^’ bruise that will confine him to the' house for some time. Hs pitched forward on his hands, also giving them a bad scraping. It would seem there was a lack of common sense, or at least the essence of earlessness on the part of whoever left the stake in such a place and sticking up some two or three inches from the surface. _ Chickens I want two car loads of chickens at I once.
