Main We understand, but are not official, lv informed, that William Jennings Bryan, the Beerless head of democ racy, not of the Dahlman kind, is to speak in this city nest Tuesday, the 17th instrnt, Just why the thrice defeated candidate for president is to speak here at this time, and what the cause for so doing and all the exigencies of the occasion, we know not, but all the same lie is the ac knowledged biggest, pebble in the democrat urn and is worth hearing. He is dated for li o'clock spiel. As we mentioned a week since, our good friend, E. A. Brown lias pur chased a paper at Friend, in Saline county, and last week he sent us on exchange his new paper the Sentinel, which he recently purchased, and whichcontainshis salutatory. Judg ing by the number sent us.' Brother Ed lias struck it rich as the paper, which is a 6-col. quarto four pages home print, contains 16 columns of display advertising, besides a good grist of paid locals. Had Ed ever printed sixteen columns of advertis ing, in any one issue while runuing the Times here, he would have fallen dead with surprise and amazement, and immediately concluded he was on the quick road to become a multi millionaire. However, the North western is not envious of Ed’s good fortune and trusts he will realize millions from his new find On Monday of this week we received the initial number of Geo. H. Gibson s new paper, the Colonist of Zephys hills, Fla., which is typical of Mr. Gibson’s style of paper and bv the way starts out with all home print on a six-col. quarto. In reading the the paper, one at once recognizes the handiwork of that energetic, pushing hit from the shoulder and don’t care » d—arn where the chips fall, and in several cases in the first number he speaks right out in meetin’ on sub* jecis for which he stands. In politics, he refuses to place himself on record, giving a swipe to both the old parties and says be is like Tom Watson, and can only ask, “Where are we at.” The paper is well represented in gen erous advertising columns, showing the merchants want sell there goods. 1 To those interested in Mr. Gibson and his new home and paper, we in vite you to call and see the copy of his first issue which we place on file for your perusal.
