    vRain Tomorrow!
If the weather man predicts rain for tommorrow
you arange your plans accordingly. Are you do
ing the same for the rainy day of your life?
No man can tell you when the day of adversity is
coming and the only safe thing to do is to build
up a Bank account against that day.
This bank affords you a rare opportunity for sav
ing by accepting any deposit from a dollar up, and
will pay you 4 per cent interest, compounded

Last week we mentioned the des-1
t ruction of Boyd Burrowes' tent show
in a car between Litchfield and Ma
son City, getting the facts somewhat1
mixed. We learn that the car was
en route from Mason City to Litch-1
field, w here they were to show in the '
evening: that the car and contents
probably caught fire from sparks from
the engine, the car being only five
cars away from the engine, somewhat
taller than those ahead and tne end
door was broken, allowing the sparks
to enter the car. When the train
entered the yards at Litchfield it
was ablaze and the contents ruined
before water from the big tank could
put the lire out. The five little per
forming dogs were smothered in the
car but the pony. Pinto, being driven
from Mason to Litchfield bv Boyd
was not therefore a victim of the
tire. Boyd lost everything. This is
the second time Boyd lias lost every
by fire, the first time a few rears
ago in the yards here, the‘case
against the railroad company still
being in courts. Mr. and Mrs'. ‘ Bur
rowes are now in the city, but what
their future moves may lie we are
not informed.
A letter Irom the editor's son,
Frank W. Burleigh, at nelsonville.
Ohio, where lie is at present, conveys
the following information of interest
to his friends here: “I have chargeof
the physical beqartraent of Y. M. C.
A. work here and also fill the place
of assistant secretary. I expect to
make this my life work. I think as
some one lias said “Have found my
corner" and will stay in it. We have
one of the largest Bible classes in
this part of the country, numbering
some six bundsed. The secret of its
success, by the way is that each
member works personally to bring
another one every time he comes,
It isan inspiring sight to see that
number of men gatiiered together
to v' orship God. YVe are in the heart
of the mining region and the largest
per cent of the members are miners.
I have not had an oppertunity to
to visit a mine, but as soon as I‘find
\ time will do so. and will do so, and
will write you a descriptive letter of
the same. 1 trust this letter will
j find all well and happy. Rember me
| to all my friends.”

Be Blue This Fall-Not to Blue
Grace >1. Gould, writing the fashion
talk in the September Woman's Home
Companion, says that blue is to be
the favorite color this fall. She adds:
"Pon tregard the choosing of a
: color for your autumn costume as a
trivial matter. Colors are notalwavs
what they seem. They have traits
that are anything but dependable.
There is the blue: that seemingly,
stunch, old reliable suade. Just look
out for it. It may make you happy
and fashionable in the daytime, but
at night you may be bluer than vou
want to be.”
Base Ball Touruament
The three days’ base ball tourn
ament is giving good satisfaction and
some very interesting games are re
sulting. On Tuesday, Arcadia aud
Ashton furnished the first game
which gave Ashton the score of 8 to
7 over Arcadia. The second game
between Loup City and Rockville re
sulting in nine goose eggs for Rock
ville, while Loup City garnered in
five scores in two innings, being
served with cooked goose egg fodder
the othgr seven. Both were tine con
tests. Wednesday afternoon wit
nessed two more fine games, the first
between Loup City and Ashton, the
winners of Tuesdays games, resulting
in our locals allowing the splendid
Ashton bunch to garner in but one
measly score, to the locals six
time over the home plate." The sec
ond game, Ord-Arcadia, gave a good
slugging exhibit, though the efficient
work of the out and infielders held
down the score to 8 and 7 in favor of
Ord. This afternoon will finish the
tournament and we understand Loup
City will try for the Ord scalps as
one contest, w hile the otlier may be
between Arcadia and Ashton, neither
being satisfied with the conclusions
of Tuesday. Anyway, today will wit
ness a couple of finals which will well
sepay the big crowd which is sure to
in attendance.
