F. met in the Odd ' Fellows’ hall in Omaha last Friday ■ lor reorganization and raising from regimental to brigade formation. E. j S. Davis, postmaster at North Platte, was made the general commanding the department of Nebraska. But what interests LoupCity tiie most in regard to this meeting was the honor done to our local order in the selec tion of Rev. W. C. Harper as brigade [chaplain of tiie Department of Ne i braska. w ith tiie rank of Major, an honor well deserved, and we doff our ! tiie to Major Harper in perfect con fidence that ire will reflect honor , upon the great order which has thus -ignally honored itself. LoupCity. the local three-linkers and he upon whom tiie trust has been imposed. M. A. Ranev. commander-in-chief of tiie Cantons of the United States, was present and confirmed the action of the Nebraska Cantons. Later—On Monday evening of this week, the Cantons of this city sprung a happv surprise on tiie major. They had perfected a big time the evening their honored brother was to return from Omaha, with such a blowout as the K. of P. boys perpetrated upon Grand Chancellor Long, and when the doughty major spoilt it all by coming home at noon they got their Irish up and gave him what was com ing to nim at the later hour. Tiie session w as on w hen all at once there came a Ham’s Horn blast from with out which caused tire major to think tiie castle walls would crumble, the hand boys having quietly assembled to make the assault the more a sur prise. and i lie gates opening, a gen eral surrender wa-made. About this u.ne also, the snte-r » >in opened ana out poured the angelic hosts of crim - line armed with their usual appeli/. veap..:i- of the household glides-* and the rout* wasc mpie;e the m:. ■. i r in roicadv -. u vu 111 b: ng to the in to liable. The music, tiie luncheon and tiie evening entire vvas a most fitting occasion. The elevation and honor attained by Bro. Harper is also reflected in the ■dge room, ids necessary retirement from the chief chair in tiie local or der resulting in the subsequent ad vancementof each subordinate officer to a higher rank.
