The Kearney Hub says the question of capital removal has passed the joking stage But it has not passed the jolting stage. >enator Volp has introduced a bill j in the legislature to increase the pav ■ of senators and representatives from i i wo to 9K*in* it goes without saying that the solons will not dare to pass j j it into law, no matter how good an i idea it may be- that is. if they want i to return another session. If someone does not introduce a bill for a pardoning board, taking the peaky job off the chief executive, i and if the legislature does not pass; such a righteous measure iDstanter. then it will have lost an opportunity of doing one of the best things that it could do the present session Representative Waite lias shown especially good judgment in that he has only introduced one bill so far in the legislative session. Most of the fellows who are sent there get the supreme idea into their noodles that the more bills they can intro duce. whether they are worth a second thought or not, the greater legislators they are. Some people seem to think that | sobriety is the only virtue. It is true ' that sobriety is a great virtue, and i that it lead" to many other virtues. ' But there are others We have known drinking men who were upright, honorable, warm hearted and gener ous. And we have known total ab stainers who were stingy, quarrel some. small-souled and generally un lovable. It takes more than one good quality to make a man. - Aurora Sun (’^apportionment bills continue to appear at intervals in the legislature. The newest is by Matru of Madison, a democrat, and he proposes sweep ing changes. Of especial interest to Sherman county is the taking of Shermin out of the 16th senatorial district with Butfalo and putting it w ith Custer to form the 26th district. Like the otiier apportionment bills, it leaves -Sherman county a represen tative district by itself, only chang ing its number from ->7tli to 68th. A bill was last week introduced in the legislature by a Buffalo represen tative having for its object the re moval of the capitol from Lincoln, and to some point west of the ‘.*7tli meridian, and for the question to be submitted to the voters this coming fall. Then if the tiling carried, the question of where to come up later. Representative Waite is one of the sponsors of the hill.
