Ed. and Pnb Friends are making an effort to secure a pardon from the state peni tentiary of Scott Haddix, now serv ing a twelve year sentence for man slaughter. Haddix was sentenced on Sept. 23, 1905, for killing Butler, and allowed credit for good conduct has served a little more than half his time. Ravenna News: Geo, Gibson, editor of the Loup City Standard Gauge, lias been made the defendant in a suit for criminal libel, R. J. Night ingale and two or three other well' known Loup City men being the com plainants. Gibson lias been handling the English language very loose and careless like in excoriating what he terms the Sherman county "plunder bund'’, and it is a wonder that simi lar action has not been started sooner. Sherman county and Loup City has suffered much from "frenzied" jour nalism, if sucli it may be termed, at least one murder has resulted from a newspaper row, and for the past two years there has been grave danger of a repetition of the bloody tragedy which resulted in the death of poor old "Skip” Willard. Sherman county can not afford to encourage the con stant and everlasting agitation of old feuds. If there has been graft in Sherman county politics prosecute the offenders and have done with it. There has been talk enough .along this line to send about fifty pet cent of Sherman county’s public men to the pen, but so far as we know there has never been a single prosecution, which is pretty good evidence to the writer that there is not much actual evidence on which to base the never ceasing wild-eyed" and frenzied hair pulling, which has characterized the affairs of the county for the*past twenty years, and has gainem, the county a very unwholesome aod prob ably undeserved reputation through out the state. This famous work appeared in 1844 and may be said to have excited more universal interest than any romance since Robinson Crusoe or Waverly. THE EXTRAORDINARY COLOR, THE NEVER FLAGGING SPIRIT, the enatess surprises, and the air of nature which is cast over even the most extravagant situations make this play worthy of the popularity it has enjoyed in almost every country er .he world. IT IS SELDOM, IF EVER, that an adaptation for stage presentation EXCEEDS IN POPULARITY and general favor that of the novel itself However, that is the case with “Monte Cristo” which has had the most solid success of any hook play known to theatrical history. THE STORY IS A MOST IMPRESSIVE ONE and deals with all the PASSIONS AND EMOTIONS. The play, which is in five acts, is provided with a complete scenic invest!- * ' lure and the costuming is correct ONE! and in accordance with the period of the play. The trade mark established by the management is “YOUR MOREY’S WORTH OR YOUR MONEY BACK” so the public take no chances when this • sterling play is presented here. It is not often that a theatrical company visiting this city, will, as an evidence of good faith, give a public guarantee as to the excellence of the attraction, but w Fred G. Conrad, the manager of “Monte Cristo,” gives the fol lowing Guaranteed Pledge: r “Wo hereby authorize the * local manager in every town that we play to guarantee it to be first-clast in every particular, i as word ‘guarantee’ is much overworked; everybody can use it, and almost everybody does. It’s a pity to see it abused; ‘guarantee’ is a good word when it means anything. We use it because 'ire have made it mean something. Cut this out, take it with vou to the theatre, and if after the first act you are dissatisfied with the entertainment given, your money will be refunded. We personally guarantee the excellence of this attraction.” itottat nn,™0 FRED G. CONRAD, Manager.” USUAL PRICES WILL PREVAIL. OPERA HOUSE Dec. 14. I Cure Nerve-Vital Debility, Weak ness.
