There were re ceived during the biennium 100; d-. - charged and died, 132. In a row at Decatur Elisha Ball was killed by Nick Farrens. Farrens and Ball had some words over a jug of whisky, when Farrens hit Ball in the head and knocked him off a sidewalk. Ball fell about four feet striking on his head, killing him instantly. The per capita cost of maintaining the Soldiers’ home at Grand Island for the year 1907 was $198.60, accord ing to the report of Commandant D. W. Hoyt, and for the year 1908 it was $196.49. The total value of products raised on the farm during the bien nium was $20,571.14, of which there is now on hand products of the value of $2,308.10. According to the report of the Ne braska Public Library commission to the governor, there are now only five towns in Nebraska of more than 2,000 population which have not public libraries. These towns are Auburn, Alliance, North Platte, Schuyler and Vi'ahoo. There are also twenty-five towns with population of less than 1.000 that have public libraries. The state board of public lands and buildings rejected all bids for the con struction of the cottage at the boys’ inustrial school at Kearney. Super intendent Sherman notified the board that the new cottage was not needed.
