Mathew last Friday afternoon and had another of their enjoyable times. St. Paul has several cases of s nail pox in light form and the schools of that town have closed in consequence tlil after the holidays. I. Depew, who passed away yesterday afternoon. An entire com munity will deeply sympathize with them. P. Ford of Wash ington township was laid up the past two weeks with one of Job’s delecta bles, which gave him a very proper excuse for loafing during the last of the corn husking season. Will Draper, Loup City’s popular plasterer, limps to j?erfection of late, owing to the unfortunate circum stance of running a nail into the side of his left foot while feeding his furnace a few evenings since. Will did not do it on purpose. Miss Beth Zimmerman last Sunday evening at the Presbyterian church gave another one of her choice solos, assisted by Max Jeffords with a splendid violin obligato and Miss Odendalil with her usual accomplished accompaniment on the organ. Hans Dietz brought in a goodly number of marketable hogs Monday. Hans was a little unfortunate in find ing a 15 cent drop in the market, which would not have been the case had lie gotten in a few hours earlier We acknowledge a pleasant call from him. Several men who are feeding stock near here would like to have the jawbone inform them where they can buy some, of the 32c corn he "men tioned in his last spasm. Oh! well, he only missed the price about 13c per bushel. That’s getting close for him. The Methodist church supper and baazar last Saturday evening in the church parlors netted some $150. There was an immense crowd present, ! each of the sister churches being out en masse to assist in the good finan cial move and incidentally to partake of the splendid chicken pie supper. Rev. McEwen returned from Omaha i Tuesday evening ann will preach in ' his own pulpit Sunday morning and evening. Ad amson in this city, to witness the marriage of their second daughter. Miss Libbie, to Mr. W. S. Taylor son of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Taylor, also of this city. The rooms were festooned in holly and evergreens and gave a pleasant appearance to the joyful oc casion. At a few moments before 9 o’clock, the wedding party, with Mr. Clyde Thompson of Arcadia as best man to the groom and Miss Grace Adamson, sister of the bride, as bridesmaid, to the accompaniment of a wedding march by Miss Ella Taylor, repaired to the south parlor, where in a few choice words they were unit ed in holiest of bonds by the Rev. Mc Ewen of the Presbyterian church, af ter which came the showers of con gratulations. Following came a de licious supper prepared for the guests to which ample justice wasdone. The tokens of esteem to the young couple were many, varied and unusally ele gant and won especial comments of admiration from the ladies. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor expect to leave Saturday for their future home at Council Bluffs, Mr. Taylor being in the U. P. train service between Denver and that city. Episcopal services at the German church, Tuesday evening. Dec. 17th. Harry Hinman has stored his goods and with his family will board at the St. Elmo. The Industrial Society of the Pres byterian church meets with Mrs. Ferdinandt next Wednesday after noon. The Baptist ladies will hold their annual supper and bazaar on Satur day, Dec. 21st. See further notice next week. Paul J. Sherman and MaudJ. Chase, both of Clay township, were united in marriage yesterday by his honor, Judge Angier. The Royal Neighbors will hold their meetings hereafter on the fourth Tuesday afternoon in each month at 3 p. m. During the heavy wind last Sunday night, a freight car on the tracks at Arcadia got tired of its side track accomodations and started east, duly arriving at Loup City on supposed schedule time. The sermons by Rev. Wagner at the Presbyterian church last Sunday were good gospel discourses and re ceived much favorable comment. He will be welcomed at any future time, when he may consent to speak to the congregation again. Mr. Carl M. Dalton who assumes the central character of “Ole Olson” is said to be the possessor of the most perfect Swedish comedy dialect yet presented to the public, keeping the audience in a perfect roar of laughter. At the Loup City opera house, Thursday, Dec. 19th. G. C. Bowman and family, who re turned from the south a few weeks since and then suddenly changed their intentions of remaining here and went to Spokane, Wash., returned here again on Monday of this week and rented one of the Odendahl cot tages, with the idea of remaining here. While Clifford Rein was trying the difficult feat of rolling a barrel with his feet, standing thereon, at the mill one day last week, he fell, striking on his left arm in such a manner as to badly sprain that useful member Luckily he broke no bones but will have little use for the arm for some time. > In this issue will be noticed the statement of the First National Bank of our city issued on call of comp troller of currency on Dec. 3rd. The statement shows the bank to be in first class condition. During the recent money flurry this bank has not passed a clearing house certificate but has paid all their checks in fall with Uncle Sam’s good cash sod will con tinue to do so. • !'»■ . i-. -.iv;: ■ Jeffords’ for Christmas presents. See him. C. P. Simpson last Saturday sold his property in the west part of town to Oliver Dubry. A. E. Harrod, who is employed by the Big Four railroad, with head quarters at Terre Haute, Ind., who had been visiting friends and rela tives in Loup City for several days, returned to his home Monday morn ing of this week. He has been tele graph operator for several years at Terre Haute, but the work being too confining has taken a traveling posi tion with the same company. The Presbyterian church has now two senior quartets, who divide the musical work of the church, singing every other Sunday. Besides these, there has been organized a junior choir, and we understand a move ment is on foot to organize still an other senior quartet at the earliest possible moment. Con siderable corn has been hauled to our elevators this week a distance of twelve and thirteen miles. The churoh expects a minister from Iowa to preach at that time. Those who were not present at the services last Sunday to hear Bro. R. R. Coon of Grand Island, missed a treat as he gave us two of the old fashioned gospel sermons that bring to our minds so forcibly our duties to God and our fellow men, and the great love of the Blather. Loup City Mill & Light Co. Some excitement developed Monday on account of the reported elopement and marriage of two well known Loup City young people, which later proved to be a fact. Sunday afternoon. Will Odendahl, who is employed as bar tender in the Rockville saloon, drove up to Loup City and returned to Ravenna the same afternoon, taking with him Miss Lulu Winkleman, sup posedly for an afternoon buggy ride. Monday morning the young people took the train for Grand Island, where they were married, returning in the evening to R ekville, where they will make their home. Accord ing to reports, the young people wished to get married, but the groom being only about nineteen years of age, his mother put a veto on it, and the elopement proves the young couple took the reins into their own hands, with the above results.
