Outside of those who have announced their candidacy through the columns of the Northwestern, for some county office, may be found that of John Minsliull for county treasurer on the pop ticket, D. B. Carpenter forsleriff on the same political side, and for. the assessorship. Wm. Lewandowski and Ferdinandt Schroll both ask for the pop endorsement. On the re publican side of the nolltical fence, Mrs. Mary A. K. Hendrickson deposits her $5 for a hearing on the county superintendency, H. B. Musser wants to be supervisor of District No. 2, Wm. Jacobs shits his castor into the ring for supervisor of No. e and W. T. Gibson tiles his desire to be supervisor of No. i, while Dr. A. S. is willing to be ooroner again. Austin News. Archie Kearns of Loup City is working for Wm. Engle. People of this vicinity are getting rather blue because of no rain. Miss Josie Talbot will teach in the Needham district again this year. Miss Mable Fulliton received a beautiful new Kimball organ last week. Little Clarence Jack ran a pitchfork in his foot last week causing quite a severe wound. The First Presbyterian Church of Austin was dedicated last Sunday afternoon. There was a large crowd present and they more than raised the $200 debt oh the church. The community at large wish to tender their thanks through this paper to all who helped w ith the music and to Editor Burleigh of the Northwest ern for furnishing the neat little souvenir programs. Cleoria Items. Joe Kowelawski'sused the hail that fell Monday to make ice cream. Messrs. C. Johnson, Barnes and Foss have cammenced to put up their wild hay. Mrs. Ed. Kilpatrick was quite bad ly hurt by a casting froifi their wind mill falling on her head. Miss Mable Shipley is staying with her brother Ed., while his wife is gone on a visit to her parents in the sandhills. Quite a hail storm visited this vicinity Monday afternoon, and the stones were as large as lien's eggs. No damage only to a few chickens. Mr. Weedin's daughter, Mrs. Yart man. and Miss Laura of Aurora are visiting their sister. Mrs. August Johnson, and while here called on Sanford Foss' and F. O. Johnson's. Gunnison & Eaton, the real estate men of Aurora, had twenty land seek ers from Hamilton county here on Wednesday, the entire company tak ing dinner at the Foss home, two of whom, Messrs. Moses and Younguest, being old-time friends of the family. Along R. R. No. 1. Mrs. Romeo Conger is very sick. R. I. Barrick took liogs to market last week. W. S. Waite was out on the route Tuesday. Frank Hiser was out on the south route Friday. Joe Johnson sold his farm on Clear Creek for 13.500. Joe Blaschke was hauling hogs to market last week. Ashley Conger will drive the mail wagon next week. Clias. Gilford had a cow killed by lightning Monday. J. Plambeck is building a tine new granary this week. Reed Bros, are having had luck with their thresher. Henry Apple lias a'brother-in-law visiting him this week. Mr. and Mrs. Pinckney took dinner at J. W. Conger's Sunday. L. Hayden has been working’for Bert Johnson the past week. Joe Kowalewski took three loads of hogs to market last Thursday. Miss Ethel Lewis is home after several weeks' visit in the east. Miss Lottie Maynard is visiting her brother, J. C. Reed on Clear Creek. Carrier lias 15 days lay-off com mencing the 12th of August, with pay E. F. Davenport ran a nail in one foot a few days since, laying him up. A. O. Hendrickson lias a 30 days’ lay-off and is visiting his brother, Rol. W. II. Creery is doing a rushing business with his bees this summer. A great many chickens along the ; route were killed by tlie hail Monday. C. I). Guilford. Walter Shettler and John Squires have been threshing this week. Farmers were making ioe cream all along the route after the hail storm on Monday. J. Plambeck finished fall ploughing last week. Early ploughing is what makes the wheat. Miss Salome R. Chilewski of Ashton visited at Joe Kowalewski’s the latter part of last week. Joe Blaschke is hauling the lumber for his new barn which will be a large one when completed. W. F. Kratzer had one hand struck on the back by a hailstone. Monday, injuring that member. E. F. Davenport had the horse doctor out to his place Wednesday to doc-tor one of his horses. Miss Maud Eaton returned home from Peru, where she has been visit ing for several weeks past. s O. G. Hunt's littte 8-year-old boy fell from a horse last Thursday while herding cattle and broke his leg. Joe Johnson returned home this I week from St. Edwards and while I there bought 120 acres of farm land. A social dance was given at the home of L. B. Focht Saturday night. A bout forty young people were present Misses Theresa and Elsie Gipe of Waterloo. Iowa, are visiting at the home of L. B. Focht. Clyde is step ping high oow. You only have until the 15th of August to cut the weeds along your line. After that time the road boss lias orders to cut them. Mrs. Cross returned home last week after a ten days' visit with her daugh ter. Mrs. Andy Coppersmith. She thinks this country is ail right. C. Zwink has done some tine work on the road in a couple of places on his line. Christ alwavs keeps the road in good shape along his farm. Married, at the Presbyterian manse in Loup City Wednesday. Miss Bertha Focht, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Focht, to Mr. John Arnett of Arcadia. _ As we go to press, news comes that Frank Grabowski. a voung man of 19 years, was killed by lighting in yes terday’s storm, while working in the hayfield, fiVe miles south of town.
