The spring sown alfalfa is a fine stand. Max Lescliinsky was in Loup City Tuesday. Frank Kusek has put u0 a new windmill. L. Hayden went to Litchfield lust Thursday. S. S. Reynolds was in Loup City Saturday. Most of the oats look good, better than last vear. G. W. Hager has put up a windmill on his place. A tine rain covered the route Sat urday and Sunday. Roy Fross is cultivating corn for R. D. Hendrickson. Miss Maude Reynolds went to Mason City Friday morning. A brother of Gay Callaiiam is work ing for R. I. Barrick. Geo. McFadden’s house has lx sen painted the past week. Miss Carrie Douglas is attending institute in Loup City. Andy Coppersmith and wife were at Mason City Tuesday. Carl Squires is braking out a lot of prairie at Round Grove. Rev. Wold held a meeting at L. Johnson's Monday night. Mr. Fross’ father and mother from Aurora, are here visiting. R. D. Hendrickson is attending teachers, institute this week. One of Gene Miller’s boys is cul tivating corn for W. O. Brown. Joe Kowalewski’s family attended the big Polish wedding Tnesday. Miss Lizzie Peterson returned frqm her visit to Stromsburg, Monday. Mrs. S. Youngland and daughter visited at Ray McFadden’s Moro&y. Mrs. F. A. Pinckney is visiting at Brady Island, Neb., this week. Fred looks lonesome. Alfalfa is in bloom and they will commence to cut it the last of the week. It is a fine crop. Please plant your watermelons close to the road, as the carrier is not allowed to leave the route. C. P. McLaughlin and Joe Kowa lewski’s boys were braking the sod on the hills by Joe McMullen’s. Miss Eva Tykwart is working* for Mrs. A. P. Culley again after a week at her home on Clear Creek. Miss Cora Fross, who has been at tending college at Aurora, is risting her parents and attending institute. The heavy rains of the past week washed the dirt away from the end of one of the bridges oh Clear Creek. There was a big hail storm 2 miles southwest of Litchfield last week. The ground was covered several inches deep. The west road is all clayed. It is something that the people west of it will appreciate this fall and will also help Loup City. Grandma Shettler is staying oat at her son’s, Walter Shettler, on Clear Creek, looking after the baby girl who came there last Saturday. Thomas Parsley was braking some sod on the road for fall work along the route Monday. If everyone would brake the sod on the bad hills ulong their place, much more could be done toward fixing the road. The hardest work is to get the sod off and a great many times this is all that is done. But if the sod is rotten you can ac complish a great deal. Rockville Items. John Wotten was seen in Rockville Monday. Mrs. L. W. Butt6 returned home Saturday. Miss Sadie Butts came up from St, Paul Monday evening. H. Tangerman, our liveryman, lost a valuable cow Monday. L. W. Butts was shaking bands with friends in Rockville Tuesday. Mrs. Sparke and son Ray catad up from St. Paul Monday evening to visit relatives. Mr. E. H. Kittell purchased a fine piano last week and their son Arthur is now taking bosons. Tire Misses Depew, Gilbert and Smith of Loup City visited at the Kittell home last week. and is here every Tuesday. A heavy rain visited this vicinity last Saturday night and all day Sun day and the fanners are all looking wise. C. H. Wineteer, Sadie and Solomon returned from Omaha Saturday, where Mr. Wineteer attended the Fanners’ Equity lodge. Sadie and Solomon en joyed a visit with their brother and wife, whom they had not seen for over eleven years. Pupils neither absent nor tardy: Elida Lund, Cena Gray and Florence Ohlund. Mabie Coulter, Teacher. Hazard Happenings. Those who were wishing for rain a short time ago are now howling too much mud. Quite a hail storm visited this sec tion last week Wednesday evening, but there was very little damage done. Two nephews of C. S. Evans are here looking for land. We hope they will decide to locate in this vicinity. Mr. and Mrs. Nielson, uncle and aunt of our genial landlord, McNind, has been visiting him the past week. Mr. John C'ressler of Ravenna was in town Monday to repair his wind mill which was destroyed during the recent storm. The infant child of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Croston died Saturday. The family have the sympathy of the entire community. Arnold Evans opened his new barber shop Saturday and judging from the amount of trade, his will certainly be a successful venture. Quite a number of our citizens went to Litchfield to witness the .ball game between Litchfield an<j the Ravenna Grays last Friday. . The Fairbury Journal in speaking about the hard luck Campbell Bros, circus are having in procuring some attractions, says: “The boys expect ed a troup of Indians from Northwest Nabraska, but a few days before the first performance, they received a letter from the old chief saying, “Lucy is dead, goddam, can’t come!” For a Drayman Send a messenger for J.
