A bill to restrict the sale of patent! ; medicines to druggists has been killed in committee. They are hat ing an abundance of Thaw in >'ew York City, let the weather be ever so frigid. ‘•Harry Thaw Swill." is the way j one paper prints what was intended as reading "Harry Thaw's Will." i They mean the same thing. The committee will this week re port on a 2-cent passenger fare bill. Those who oppose such a law claim it is clearly unconstitutional. County division as relates to Custer and other counties, lias another wait coming, as the present legislature has fallen heavily on the w hole matter. The house last week killed the bill to do away with capital punishment. Thu.- the majority of the represen tatives record themselves in favor of legalized murder. A"o more, no less. The county option bill was killed in | tiie senate last Friday by a vote 20 to j 11. The opponents claimed the bill was unfair because it gave the anti saloon people two whacks at the saloon to one strike back. T* —11 1 ~ Representative Frie-- of Howard county has introduced a bill in tlie legislature, the effect of which is to compel every voter to exercise his right of franchise, in default of which he shall pay the >u.;iof *3 as a special voting tax. The editor of a weekly paper pub lished in Barber county. Kansas, grants no favors to the railroads now that the pass lias been abolished. He lias taken out the railroad time table and instead prints this information: •■Trains are about due when you see the smoke.” .. The senate after sitting down on the levy idea, as a sort of legalized graft, when asked for by the State Fair Association, records itself in fa vor of a half mill levy to make good the defalcations of ex-Treasurer Bart ley. It makes some difference whose ox is gored. Senator Randall of Madison has in troduced into the senate a bill which is said to be directed against school ma'ams who fall victims to cupid in the middle of a term and desert their posts of duty. The bill prescrilies the terms of contracts between school districts and teachers, and then pro vides that neither can violate the terms of the agreement with impunity As a penalty for violation the teacher will have her certificate to teach j taken away from her. The measure ■ also fixes the minimum salaries to be ■ paid teachers at from $30 to the j lowest ciass, to $50 for the more ex-1 perienced grades. . I will start a milk route about the j 25th of this month, and your patron- j age is respectfully solicited. Give me j a trial and I will give you satisfac- j tion. Hen by Dolling. Hymeneal. Poor seed corn means missing hills, one-stalk hills and weak stales, pro ducing little or nothing. It means ■ wasted land and wasted labor. It | means less than thirty bushels of corn per acre in the "corn belt" instead of f >rty or forty-five bushels. On this point. Prof. Holden, the noted corn specialist, says: "If the corn fields of the United States were mine and I could give but one order, that order would be to test six kernels of corn from every ear that was intended lor planting.” Such testing in carefully arranged test boxes that any fanner's boy can make in a few minutes, would discover in time to prevent the plant ing of com from ears tliat are unsound from any cause, and this year it will be found that many an ear that looks good on the surface lias weak vitality and has no business in the seed (die.
