E«l. and Pub. “Was Did!” On Wednesday morning of this week, we were handed a copy of the following resolutions which Mr. Fisiier informed us were passed by the camp: "Be it Resolved by the members of Loup City Cftmp no 636 m w a in regular session on this 2nd day of Oct 1606. * That we do hereby heartily condemn the article published in the Loup City northwest ern of its issue of sept 27th entitled "Failure but whose fault wa> it-*' That the same was unwarranted, malicious and uncalled for and was only prompted by the petty jealousy of its editor, and "was did' for the purpose of creat ing contention and strife among our members, therefore was an insult to our camp. "Be it further Resolved that these resolu tions be spread upon the Records of our camp and a copy ottered for publication to each of the newspapers of Loup City.’’ By reference to the Northwestern of last week, it will be seen that we did not say one word derogatory of the order, of which we are a member, and have been for some seven years, but only spoke of the failure of "those who attempted to get up a Woodman Day. led by its clerk, who ignored the larger part of its membership. While calling it a failure, as it was. and which all will acknowledge, we depre cated the action of the clerk, but said not one word in derogation of the Modern Woodmen of America which we said was "one of t:ie great est as well as one of the best fraternal organizations ever in existence There fore, the above resolutions, engineered by Hibson and passed by perhaps a dozen or fifteen who were present, out of a total membership in this camp of in the neighborhood of 200, as we understand, will only react up on the originator and plainly show the animus of the little fellow" And so es-County Clerk Gibson adr mits he was short in his accounts at the close of his first term, Nuf sed, , ‘‘Not that I love McKinnie more: but that I love Brown less.” Gibson's attitude on the representative can didates. Gibson claims he is for Norris Brown for U. S. Senator, and yet pro poses to support the fusion candidate for the state senate. Oh! consistency: thy name is not g. h. g. To those who deprecate the news paper controversy here, we would ask. Who commenced it? Who kept it up for months, till forbearance ceased to be a virtue? Who attempted to decry the fair reputation of one of our most respected lady teachers? Who has for months been hounding and de faming some of our leading citizens? Who is it that lias been tilling the air with his nauseating and venom ous bad English, bad grarnmer and bad orthography, till his ignorance and bad taste lias caused him to be something to be despised arid avoided by a large class of‘ our best people? We have no desire to'soil our hands in a jangle of this kind, but when an infection is in our midst, some ope must handle the disinfectant. In these days of looseness of party lines, the Northwestern is glad tQ note that the average voter, with the plea that he votes for men rather than for party, can have no excuse for scratching "the republican ticket. In our candidate for representative, the party has a man of the people, a Roosevelt republican, a straightfor ward. honest, conscientious upholder of the tenets of republicanism and who stands squarely on the platform of his party. Such a man is Carle T. McKinnie, and every republican can freely give him support. Don't forget, believer of Roosevelt ideas, that his vote will be recorded for the republican candidate for the U. S. senate, who is in perfect accord with the principles of the party as enun ciated by our platform. In our can didate /or county attorney, Robert P. Starr, the same can be said. He is a lawyer of merit, and one of the principal legal lights of Sherman county. He is amply qualified to attend^ to the duties "of the office in the best possible manner- He is honestj trustworthy, a square-tqed republican, and enjoys to the fullest extent the confidence and respect of our people. He will attend to the duties of the office without fear or favor, and the interest of Sherman county will be safely handled by him in the office. In a like manner can we speak of the candidates of the party in Nebraska, from governor to road overseers. They are entitled to your hearty support as a unit. Valley District. Mr. and Mrs. H. Reed and little daughter, Fern, went to Adker. this state, to attend the funeral of Mrs. Reed's brother. Elmer Babcock and family went to Loup City last Tuesday. Miss Laura Brammer is visiting Miss Essie Reed this week. A suprise party was given at the home of Elmer Babcock last Satur day evening. Everybody reported a good time. Mrs. G. W. Wescott returned from her Colorado visit Tuesday.' Miss Essie Clark has been suffering from ivy poison Jurdan Gray is reported better. Motof Car tiepice.
