Sc M Wreck >ear C ni$t»ck The west Iwund B. & M. passenger train was wreched last evening at the big curve between Comstock and Sar gent by the spreading of rails. The engine passed safely over, but the two coaches left the track, one thrown across the track, the other being hung some distance from the road bed. Fortunately no one was killed or even seriously Injured. We under stand Frank Brewer was one of the passengers. The wrecking train went up to the scene early this morning and will have the road opened again in a few hours.. By error, last week's Nobthwkst kbn was dated “April 3,” instead of “May 3.’’ No excuse therefor, except carelessness. Ex-State Auditor J. H. Cornell is dying at ids home in Verdon, this state, of acute paralysis. He was the last populist state auditor. Elsewhere in this issue will tie found the "Articles of Incorporation’’ of the Farmers’ Elevator Association of Loup City and Sherman county. Also notice of annual election oi officers of the association. Brer. Brown is still busy bringing out proposed candidates on the re publican ticket. As he only men tioned one for the county attorney ship. it will be supposed lie has not had his ear close to the ground. Again lias a Loup City citizen beer honored. Tiiis time it is J. S. Pedlei who was elected Patron of the Grand Chapter O. E. S. at Lincoln last week. Carry the news to his not very formidable enemy, the “would be yellow.” As a little out of the usual. th< democrats of Nebraska this year pro po^ to lead, in the matter of holding their state convention, rather tliar follow, as they have named Aug. 15 as their date^about a week prior tc to.- republican state convention. We hear it whispered that tht democrats of Sherman county pm pose to have a fair division of offices tiiis fall and rather incline to namt the candidate for representative themselves, allowing their populjsl brethren to go after the count} attorneyship, or vice versa, E. Rosewater is now an avowee candidate for the U. S. senate, his son. Victor Rosewater, making the announcement in last Monday’s Hail} Bee. Tills means that Norris Browi will have to go some to head off t Rosewater boom tiiat seems to be gathering with the force and rapiditj of a modern tornado. All Is not serene among the opposen of republicanism in Nebraska. Geo W. Berge. populist, wants another g( at the governorship, while the demo cratic brethren want to sidetraci George with the attorney generaishi] and name the man for chief rule: themselves. George says “nix’ weeden.” or words to that effect, anc says with him it will be nominatior fqr governor or nothing. So, there. As Bro. Brown is hearing of sup posed republican candidates for office lie will of course have no objection U Tub Nobthwesthbn mentioning some spoken of on his side of ti« house. As a starter, we this weei mention the name of our honorabli contemporary. Bro. A. E. Brown him self, whom we have heard spoken o in connection with the office of Rep resentative in the coming state legis lature. Now the opposition could gi further to find a man and not be hal so happy in their selection, ant ■•Representative Brown of Sherman" would not sound so bad. A Loup City editor of a populis paper resorted to the meanest trie! on record to get his wife to dig u] the garden tins spring. He went ou with a spade and a hoe and afte searching around for a while he wen to tiie house to wash the dirt off ; dime and a quarter. He had strucl ft rich he said. Back to the gardei lm went whistling “Sweet Marie.' Directly he came again, this tim allowing another quarter and remarkei that lie could afford to take a naf he had made enough for one day anv how. When he awoke, his wife ha the wliole plot dug up. but she ha not found a “scent.” She doesn’t ye know the mine was salted.
