Whereas:— Onr Father in Heaven has summoned to his eternal home, our late worthy and esteemed fellow member. Henry M. Mathew, o Marmion Lodge III. Knights of Pythias, of Loup City. Nebr Our brother knight in whose life was combined the knightly courtesy, steadfast friendship and fearless courage of a true and valiant knight whose love and devotion to Marmion Lodge III and our beloved order. Knights of Pythias, has been testified by years of faithful service And. Whereas: By the death of our beloved brother. Marmion Lodge has been deprived of the comradeship and counsel of one of its valued and trusted members: his family of the love, comj anionship and protection of a devot. ed husband and father, anp this community of one of its most able and respected citizens. Now therefore be it Resolved: That we deplore the loss of our brother, Henry M. Mathew, with unfeigned sorrow and regret, softened only uy th»* con | fldent hope that his spirit is with those who have passed the dread ordeal of death, fought the good tight of a brave aud valiant knight and is forever at rest in the great Castle Home, where good knights dwell forevermore. Resolved: That Marmion Lodge tender to his widow and son their condolence and heart felt sympathy in their great affliction. and that we tenderly and lovingly commend them to our heavenly Father We can but imperfectly understand the reason for this bereavement but we bow in submission to the judge of all the earth, who doeth all things well." And be it further Resolved: That the Castle Hall of Marmion Lodge be draped with emblems of mourning I tor a period of thirty days, and a copy of these resolutions be placed upon the records of our lodge, n copy transmitted to the relatives of the deceased, and a copy furnished the Loup City Nokihwestebn and Times-lndependeut j for publication. A question of political interest in Sherman county politics just at pres ent is the time for the coming county republican ivention. ■—» Some sort of press bureau is pushing ex-Speaker House's contention for the coming governorship. In the name ol all that's good, he is the last one that should be named. A dottier nice plum has been landed out. and this time one of the groi Nebraskr newspapermen is the happy recipient- Editor J. H. Ellis of the Alliance Times lias been appointed receiver of the Alliance land office, and we are glad of it, Omaha lias launched a senatorial boom for Hon. John L. Webster, It is a cold day indeed when Omaha, does not present a candidate for the senatorial toga. But then, what’s the use? The state convention will des . ignate Norris Brown for that exalted position, and all of Omaha’s squirm ing will cut little ice. A good-sized light is on in the first congressional district between Pollard the present congressman, and those who want his place. One of the God awful tilings laid up against his com mittee at his recent election was the expense account of $42.12 for cigars, which is claimed by his opponents to he a violation of the corrupt practice get, which makes it unlawful to give UWft.v or treat to cigars, drinks or other refreshments, and Pollard’s opponents propose to make him "smoke” for that. It is claimed that John N. Baldwin, the power behind the throne in U. P. circles, has given it out that the rail roads will control the coming state republican convention. We don't believe he has said anything of the the kind, even if lie thinks so. John N. is no fool, and that would lie about the biggest fool remark that could lie credited to him. And it is pot among the probabilities either, gs Norris Brown lias alxiut the clear est cinch on the nomination of any piati since Elmer Burkett won in the saiiie easy manner.
