Brown got busy last week an nouncing prospective republican can didates lor the legislature. Now if he will please announce prospective can didates for county attorney on the re publican side, also, we will have posi tive knowledge of those lie does not want to see win, A bill is being pushed through con gress to pension all veterans of the civil war who have past the age of 62 years. Such a measure should have become a law years ago. No honor or return to the old soldiers could ad equately compensate them for the tri als and deprivations they experienced A mong those spoken of for the re publican nomination for state treas urer we hear the following: l’eter Berlet and State Senator E. E. Good, both of Auburn: Senator A. E. Cady of St. Paul: L. J. Brain of Albion: M ichael Riley of Falls City, and A. D. Beemer of' Cuming county, present warden of the penitentiary. A pretty good layout from which to choose. Some subsciber of the Times wrote Brer. Brown last week, stating that one of his articles of the preceding week smelled to the irate reader like a small section of “limbergereheese,” and worse than the late “cereal” Seketura articles which caused so little sensation as to have been a frost to the author. Brer. Brown acknowl edges his article must have been ill smelling indeed. The state republican committee at its meeting in Lincoln last Thursday after a hot fight decided to retain the coming state convention at Lincoln. It knocked into a cocked hat the direct primary idea, and wisely adopt ed the popular idea of nominating a United States senator in the state convention, thus doing away with the bargain and sale work of nomination by legislature by giving happy in structions from the republican party in advance. It was also recommended that the convention be asked to vote for or against the endorsement of the constitutional amendment relating to a railway commission. According to the basis of representation fixed of one delegate for every 125 votes cast for Judge Letton. with one delegate at large from each courfty, Sherman county will have a representation of six delegates in the convention. The state convention was fixed for Tues day, A ugust 22nd. Clear Creek Chat George Gray has moved on his new farm northwest of town. J. K' Gray is moving to his new home south of Mason City, Frank Kuhn has purchased the old Linsay homestead near R. Baker’s.
