COUNTY LETTERS Cleora Notes John Bell is enjoying ranch life near l'ool Siding, where he is employed by Rogers Bros. Corn husking is nearly a thing of the past, but the corn shelters begin to bum in this locality. Mrs. Emma Cowling closed a very successful four jgontbs' term of school in the home district last Friday. Miss Bertha John is home for a tw* weeks’ vacation from school autiel. also her sister. Miss Josie, is home. Mrs. and Mrs. Shipley had a family reunion on Christmas of their children, and expect to have a picture taken. Miss Alice Manning has gone to her home in Aurora to spend the holidays, and will return to resume Jarr school again. Emma Cowling boarded the train at Litchfield last Saturday morning for Ravenna, where she will visit friends and relatives. The gentle voice of Floyd Warrick was heard over the phone the other evening, re veiling to his many friends that he was home for Christinas. Our community can boast of two new bridges across Cobb Creek, which was badly needed for aome time, and now look for a free rural route soon. We have a telephone line and begin to feel as though we were living among the civilized. * Ashton News. I. M. Polski purchased a fine piano last week, R. D. Sutton and family spent Xmas with Papa and Mama IVilson. Mrs. F. E. Tapolskl and mother left tor South Omaha to spend the holidays. W. Newman went to Schaupps last Tuesday to work at the carpenter trade. St. Gatezenski’s house was broken into Sunday, the window's smashed in and furniture broken. J. P. Dobsen lost a brand new set of barters, the north wind had blown them down south of Rockville, where he found them the other day. He made the first purchaser, who lives here In Ashton, dig up some $60 besides the harness. Dobsen put eighteeen shot in a fellow for stealing a sack of flour. According to that how many would it take for a harness thief. ADDITIONAL LOCALS. County Clerk-elect Beuscliausen has moved to town and is occupying the Hawk property in the south part of town. Sheriff-elect Sutton of Valley county apent Christmas with his daughters in this city—the Mesdames Waite and Chasa. Bob Young did on Christmas what the editor would like to haye done celebrated Christmas with his good mother. We received a pleasant financial call on Wednesday from our gjod Boelus friend, M. Zellers, who was in town on business. The dance Christmas night in Society hall was a brilliant affair, the hall being crowded with trippers of the merry fantastic. Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Fancher are spending the holidays here, the guests of their daughter, Mrs. C. C. Cooper, and family, A Mrs. Hickman died in this city last Saturday, her funeral occurring from the Baptist church Sunday and her body taken to Missouri for burial. We have no further particulars. W. R. Mellor left for Seward, Tues day morning, to attend the funeral of Hon. K. McIntyre, treasurer of the Stste Agricultural Society, whose death occurred at his home in Seward the day previous. There will be a basket social at the fiaillie school house tn Washington township on Friday evening, Jan. 5th. The McKinnie brothers will furnish a musical entertainment on that occasion. A cordial invitation is extended to all.
