Gibson On Mellor’s Mandamus Ed Northwestern: After read ing the editorial and statement regard ing the Mellor Mandamus case in your columns last week. I just wondered if you would not like to finish the story and give the public the whole truth instead of stopping at the place that is calculated to cause a small revolution on account of your telling half the story. Mr. Mellor's figures as you give them I guess are correct, but will you please tell the public, first: The state and county consolidated tax are all the same in the county, 27 mills. Second: That each Township and School Dist. board makes its own levy and here you have it in the districts you quote from. < r part of them. Loup City Twp. levy: General fund, 2 mills; Road fund, lOmills; Irrigation fund, 10 mills; total, 22 mills. School District No. 1: General fund, 25 mills; Bond interest, 3 mills; total. 28 mills. Grand total, 50 mills. Ashton Twp., comprising Lnds you quoted: General fund, 2 mills; Road fund, 2 mills; total, 4 mills. School District No. 16; none. Total. Town ship and School leyy, 4 mills. Difference in levy, 46 mills. Will you please inform your readers that you have investigated and found this to be a fact and that if Mr. Conk lin pays $15 on a quarter section in Section 27. at Ashton, on a valuation of 8500, that the man who owns a farm in Loup City township and School Dis trict No. 1 would pay a tax of 838 50 on the same valuation. School District No. 16 of Ashton township levies no tax and it comprises a large number of sections 15. The Supreme Court's deci sion was a righteous one, and I hope the time will speedily come when the people of Sherman county can have the facts laid plainly before them in their entirety and that subterfuge »nd half statements will not be resorted to for the purpose of prejudicing the people’s minds De-tr Editor, please tell t’.e public why you allow your columns lo be used to befog them, when the whole facts are so easily obtained. Yours, etc.. Geo. H. Gibson. Ignoring the coveted insult to the ed itor conveyed in the above in more than one sentence, (for the present at least) we will simply take up the Conklin al lusion in a few words. The valuation of the Conklin quarter, se of 27, is 8439 while the valuation of Lawrence Smith's rough quarter, a mite-past of Loup City is 8399 and the valuation of A. M. Robbins' 80, two miles northwest of this city is $300. The Conklin quar ter is said to be worth 88,000 on the market and is as good lying land as the Robbins 80, therefore if equalization is sought why is the Conklin 100 not valued at 8720 instead of only 8439 ? It lies right up against town, while the Robbins eighty lies two mies awav. Is the Smith quarter only worth 8200 less than the Conklin quar ter? It is valued at only 940 less. ADDITIONAL LOCALS.
