J. W. BURLEIGH. Ed. and Pnb.
Every day makes republican suc
cess more assured, and correspond
ingly lessens democratic chances of
carrying New York. Without New
York the democrats do not have a
ghost of a show, and very little even
with New York.
The democrats of this senatorial
district will have to guess again. A
week or so since they nominated II.
G. Patton, of this county for sena
tor, but that gentleman, being a
staunch populist, turns the empty
honors down. Why not try “Little
Giant*’ Thompson next time? He
never refuses anything.
This is the way Tom Watson
s’zes up Parker, the democratic nom
inee for president: “Judge Parker
is a bogus democrat, an ‘artful
dodger,’ and a sham reformer. He
secured his nomination by fraud and
the democratic party was shameful
ly sold out at the St. Louis conven
tion.” Oh, Tommy; this is awful.
Here's a tip. Uncle Joe does not
believe in carrying cases from one
court to another, incurring costs
for one trifling cause or another;
neither does he, as county attor
ney, believe in embroiling the
county in petty cases, when he csn
cure the matters, without cost to
the taxpayers, making parties in
wrong pay costs and damages and
settle the trouble equitably out of
court. In every petty case he has
commenced, the parties have either
plead guilty, been found guilty or
settled the case out of court and
have paid the costs in every in
stance. Is this not a better way
than burdening the courts with
petty cases for which there is little
or ro excuse? The taxpayers and
voters will answer that question on
the 8th of November next by re
electing J. S Pedler county Attor
ney by a handsome majority.
“Old Boys’” Club.
Last Saturday ihere was organ

president; S. S. Hover, vice presi
dent; E. kjrewer, treasurer, and Lew

J. Froelieh,

The next meeting is called for
Saturday, Oct. 15th. Every man
who voted for Fremont or Lincoln,
or both, who believes in Roosevelt
and will vote for him, is invited to
be present and enroll. We will
publish a list of such God-blessed
old political heroes from week to
