PROPOSED CONSTITUTIONAL
AMENDMENT.
The following proposed amendment to, and
convention for the revision of, the Constitution
of the State of Nebraska, as hereinafter set
forth, in full. Is submitted to the electors of the
State of Nebraska, to be voted upon-at the gen
eral election to be held Tuesday, November 8.
A. D. 1901.

A Bill for a Joint Resolution recommending
to the electors of the state to vote at the next
election of members of the Legislature for or
against a convention to revise, amend and
change the Constitution of the Sate of Ne
braska in accordance with Section''2, Article 15.
of the Constitution of the State of Nebraska.
Be it Resolved bt tub Legislature of
the State of Nebraska:
1. That it Is deemed necessary to call a con
vention to revise, amend and change the Con
stitution of the State of Nebraska.
2. That the electors are recommended to
vote at the next election of members of the
Legislature for or against a convention to re
vise, amend and change the Constitution of the
State of Nebraska.
3. That at such next election of members
of the Legislature on the ballot of each elector
voting at such election, shall be printed or
written In such manner that the elector can in
dicate his preference under the law the words:
"FOR calling a convention to revise, amend
and change the Constitution of the State of Ne
braska," and "AGAINST calling a convention
to revise, amend and change the Constitution
of the State of Nebraska''; and If a majority
voting, at said election shall vote for a conven
tion, the Legislature shall, at its next session,
provide by law for calling the same.
I, Geo. W. Marsh, Secretary of State of the
State of Nebraska, do hereby certify that the
foregoing proposed amendment to the Consti
tution of the State of Nebraska, and provid
ing for a Convention for the revision of said
Constitution of the State of Nebraska, is
a true and correct copy of the original enrolled
bill passed by the Twenty-eighth session of the
Legislature of the State of Nebraska, as it ap
pears from said original bill, on file in my
office, and that said proposed amendment and
revision of the Constitution of the State of Ne
braska is submitted to the qualified voters of
the State of Nebraska, for their adoption or
rejection.fat the general election to be held on
Tuesday, the 8th day of November, A. D. I9W.
In testimony whereof, I hereunto set my
band and affixed the Great Seal of the State of
Nebraska.
Done at Lincoln this 5th day of July, in the
year of our Lord One Thousand Nine Huudred
and Four, of the Independence of the United
States the One Hundred and Twenty Ninth and

A Most Enjoyable Trip.
The editor and Will Zimmerman
took a ride to the beautiful little
village of Litchfield, last Sunday,
and was surprised to see so charming
a little city there and fine country
between here and there Crops
could not look nicer nor the corn
larger, more advanced, nor the pros
pect of crop of that cereal better.
It is claimed that many fields will
yield 75 bushel to the acre, and we
do not doubt it. The country
between Loup City and Litchfield,
and especially around the latter
place, is dotted with fertile and
picturesque valleys and none pret
tier can be found in Nebraska. It
was our first ride over the country
since our coming to Sherman county
and our surprise was great to see so
fine a country, and so rich withal, in
spite of the fact that we had been
assured that Sherman county was
the garden spot of Nebraska. Now
more than ever we feel like standing
up for Sherman county and Nebras
ka. We met quite a number of
the pleasant people of our sister
city and find them, like those of
our home town, most sociable and
home-like and every one in love
with their home town and country
surrounding, and we do not blame
them. They have a littlle paradise
over there. And now we are going
to take rides through.other parts of
the conntry as often and whenever
we get a chance to go with such a
pleasant, social, companionable gen
tleman as we cad last Sunday.

Will Spencer took a trip east to
be with a sick brother. Will re
turn by way of St Louis.
James Gray has returned home
from Lincoln with his wife who has
been at a hospital there. The phy
sians pronounce her case incurable.
Shotgun vs. Neck yoke.
Last Saturday, John Cummings
of Scott township came to town and
swore out a peace warrant against a
neighbor, Thos. Hobbs, whom he
claimed pointed a shotgun in his di
rection, with intent of puncturing
his anatomical construction. Sher
iff Williams thereby went out and
brought Thomas in, to see why h^
was desirous of fracturing the law
and John's frame at one and the
same time. The hearing took place
here Monday, Mr. Dobbs presenting
the state with some twenty odd dol
lars for the costs incurred by his
pleasantry and swore to be more
gentle and lamblike in the future,
whereupon Mr. Cummings with
drew his complaint, and the dove of
peace once more hovered over them,
with County Attorney Pedler up be
fore the bar of the opposition to an
swer why in thunder he did not
jnake a big criminal case and lots
of cost9 to the taxpayers out of it,
instead of seeing the dove get in its
beak. Uncle Joe, is awful. The
trouble originated between Cum
mings and Hobbs over stock, the
cause not great but enough, we un
derstand, that Cummings was going
to play Hobbs with a neckyoke, the
latter procuring a cannon stopping
the former Cummings too close tc
him, ihe two weapons forming a
high bluff between them. That’s
about all there was to it. Both are
respected citizens of Scott, and each
now regrets the unpleasantness.
Saudy Griswold’s Decision.
Apropos of the much discussed foot
race that occurred here a couple of week s
since, and the result of which was dis
puted by both side®, we append Troy
Hale's letter to Sandy Griswold, sport
ing authority, and his decision in re
gird thereto:
Loup City, ATeb., Aug. 30.- To Sandy
Griswold. Sporting Editor of the World
Herald: There was a foot race
match here today. All parties under
stood it was to be started at pistol shot.'
Both men were ready in position at the
pistol shot. One man only got started.
He ran through and claimed his money
and side bets were claimed The start
er called them back and they ran again.
This time the man who did not get off
the first time won the race, though the
first fellow got the same start he
had before. They ran the second time
without the consent of the men that
had the money up. IIow should this
race be decided? Was that first pistol
shot a go or was it not? Please answer
in paper at once.—J. T. Half..

decision. The second start should
count.
