A. D. 1904.

to the electors of the state to vote at the next
election of members of the Legislature for or
against a convention to revise, amend and
change the Constitution of the Sate of Ne
braska in accordance with Section 2, Article 15.
of the Constitution of the State of Nebraska.
Be it Resolved bt the Legislature or
the State or Nebraska:
1. That it is deemed necessary to call a con
vention to revise, amend and change the Con
stitution of the State of Nebraska.
2. That the electors are recommended to

Legislature for or against a convention to re.
vise, amend nnd change the Constitution of the
State of Nebraska
3. That at such next election of members
of the Legislature on the ballot of each elector
voting at such election, shall be printed or
written in such manner that the elector can in
dicate his preference under the law the words:
"FOR calling a convention to revise, amend
and change the Constitution of the State of Ne
braska." and “AGAINST calling a convention
to revise, amend and change the Constitution
of the State of Nebraska’’; and if a majority
voting, at said election shall vote for a conven
tion. the Legislature shall, at its next session,
provide by law for calling the same.
I, Geo. W. Marsh. Secretary of State of the
State of Nebraska, do hereby certify that the
roregoing proposed amendment to the Consti
tution of the State of Nebraska, and provid
ing for a Convention for the revision of said
Constitution of the State of Nebraska, is
a true and correct copy uf the original enrolled
bill passed by the Twenty-eighth session of the
Legislature of the State of Nebraska, as It ap
pears from said original bill, on file in my
office, and that said proposed amendment and
revision of the Constitution of the State of Ne
braska is submitted to the qualified voters of
the State of Nebraska, for their adoption or
rejection, at the general ‘.'lection to be held on
Tuesday, the 8th day of November. A. D. 1904.
In testimony whereof I hereunto set my
hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of
Nebraska.

year of our Lord One Thousand Nine Huudred
and Four, of the Independence of the United
States the One Hundred and Twenty Ninth and
of this State the Thirty Eighth.
(Great Seal, i Geo. W. Marsh.
Secretary of State.
There will be a convention of electors
of the third supervisor district held at
the Throckmorton school house, in Clay
towhship, on Aug. 29th. at 2 p. m , to
nominate a supervisor for said district,
T. C. Chamberlain,
Thomas Burton,
John Mathewson,
Committee,
Now, that all parties in Sherman
county have made their nomina
tions, forked political lightning may
be expected to strike in all direc
tions.
Talking to an old-line democrat,
the other day, he said, “I wras born
a democrat, have always voted that
ticket, and am still a democrat, but
am not the of Wall street-Rill-Parker
kind, and am heartily sick of fusion
as w’ell, so I am going to vote this
fall for Roosevelt and Unole Joe,
and for Uncle Joe especially because
he settles every cast* that comes be
fore him out of court, if possible,
and that’s my kind of a county at
torney.” That’s pretty good rea
soning from a taxpayer’s standpoint,
ain’t it.
Every voter who believes in the
honesty and righntness of Theodore
Rooseyelt’s position in regard to the
evils which menace this country,
such as Wall street domination, the
trusts, the meat combine, railroad
mergers, etc., should vote for Re
publican legislators and congress,
men to strengthen the Roosevelt
arm. It is no question of doubt
that Roosevelt must owe his election
almost wholly to the common peo
ple, whose candidate he is, nor any
greater doubt that the almost com
bined corporate power of'the trusts,
combines and great Wall street in
terests will try to encompass his de
feat. \ oter, party or no party, wheifi
will you stand?

SERIOUS SHOOTING AFFRAY
Three Young Men Shot While
Invading an Orchard.
A bad shooting affair occurred in
Bristol township, this county, Mon
day of this week, just across the
river from Rockville. The circum
stances are about as fol low’s, as
near as we can ascertain. While
Lisle Holmes, son of Geo. Holmes,
a respected citizen of that township,
together with two companions,
Frank Meyer, of the same townhip,
and Harry Jungle of Buffalo coun
ty, were passing the farm of Frank
Cook, another highly respected citi
zen of Bristol township, they left
their threshing rig and wrent into
the Cook orchard to help themselves
to apples. Just what occurreed at
this time conflicting stories are told,
but the facts admitted are that Mrs.
Cook fired two loads of shot at them,
each one of the boys receiving a
portion of the contents, Holmes and
Meyer being only slightly injured,
while Jungle was seriously wound
ed, the extent of his injuries yet to
be ascertained. Mr. and Mrs. Cook
and Mr. Holmes, father of the boy,
were iu Loup City, Tuesday, in con
sultation w’ith County Attorney
Pedler and legal counsel, resulting
in a mutual agreement, as we under
stand, to await the result of the
Jungle boy’s injuries, before action,
if any, may be brought, and letting
Jungle, he being the most injuied,
bring that suit. Mrs. Cook was
here ready to give herself up, but
insists she only shot to scare the
boys, and did so because of con
stant aggravation from unwelcome
visitations to their orchard. Mr.
Holmes feels keenly the trouble and
is not inclined to let the matter rest.
It is a very unfortunate affair, and as
all concerned are neighbors and are
most respected citizens of their sec
tion of the country, wre trust they
may amicably settle this matter
out of court and save the taxpayers
of the county and themselves the
great expense of such a proceeding
and the consequent ill-feelings en
gendered which time cannot heal.
If you vote the Republican ticket
etiaight this fall you can make no
mistake for Rooseveltism is the
watchword.
