AMENDMEM.
The following proposed amendment to, and
convention for the revision of, the Constitution
of the State of Nebraska, as hereinafter set
forth, in fall, is submitted to the electors of the
State of Nebraska, to be veted upon at the gen
eral election to be held Tuesday, November 8,

A Bill for a Joint Resolution recommending
to the electors of the state to vote at the next
election of members of the Legislature for or
against a convention to revise, amend and
change the Constitution of the Sate of Ne
braska In accordance with Section 2, Article 15.
of the Constitution of the State of Nebraska
Be it Resolved bt the Legislature of
the State or Nebraska;
1. That it Is deemed necessary to call a con
vention to revise, amend and change the Con
stitution of the State of Nebraska.
2. That the electors are recommended to
vote at the next election of members of the
Legislature for or against a convention to re.
vise, amend nnd change the Constitution of the
State of Nebraska.
3. That at such next election of members
of the Legislature on the ballot of eaeh elector
voting at such election, shall be printed or
written in such manner that the elector can in
dicate his preference under the law the words;
• FOR calling & convention to revise, amend
and chamge the Constitution of the State of Ne
braska." and "AGAINST calling a convention
to revise, amend and change the Constitution
of the State of Nebraska1'; and if a majority
voting, at said election shall vote for a conven
tion, the Legislature shall, at its next session,
provide by law for calling the same.

foregoing proposed amendment to the Consti
tution of the State of Nebraska, and provid
ing for a Convention for the revision of said
Constitution of the State of Nebraska, Is
a true and correct copy of the original enrolled
bill passed by the Twenty-eighth session of the
Legislature of the State of Nebraska, as it ap
pears from said original bill, on hie in my
office, and that said proposed amendment and
revision of the Constitution of the State of Ne
braska is submitted to the qualified voter* of
the State of Nebraska, for their adoption or
rejection, at the general election to be held on
Tuesday, the 8th day of November, A. D. 1901.
In testimony whereof, I hereunto set my
hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of
Nebraska.
Done at Lincoln this 5th day of July, in the
year of our Lord One Thousand Nine Huudred
and Four, of the Independence of the United
States the One Hundred and Twenty Ninth and
of this State the Thirty Eighth.

of the third supervisor district held at
the Throckmorton school house, in Clay
towhship. on Aug. 29th, at 2 p. m, to
nominate a supervisor for said district,

Last week we stated on authority of
the Lincoln Star that tbe assessment
of Sherman county was passed apon by
the state board of equalization and pro
nounced satisfactory. Later the coun
ty clerk received word from the state
board that the assessment had been
raised 10 per cent. We stand corrected.
The Populist county convention met
here Monday Owing to so much other
matters of interest preceding it, we can
only give it abreviated notice George
Lee was made chairman and Editor
Brown was made secretary. Representa
tive E. H. Kittell received the unani
mous re-nomination for that office. H.
M. Mathew was nominated for county
attorney. T. S. Nightingale was made
chairman of the county central com
mittee Messrs. Emry, Long, Kittell,
Gowin, Brammer, Godfrey, Christian
sen and Hendrickson are delegates to
the state convention; Messrs. Minshull,
McDowell. Slote, Badura, Neilson and
Brammer to the congressional, and
Messrs. Emry, Brown, Peters.WincbeJl,
Chapman and Angier to the senatorial
conventions. Delgates were present
from ten townships. E. A. Draper was
appoined senatorial committeeman for
this county. We would have been glad
to give the proceedings in detail, but
space positively forbids.
Over in low a last week occurred a
newspaper change that is of much in
terest to the editor of this paper. The
Tingley Vindicator, a bright paper in a
lively town in Ringgold county, Inis
been purchased by the editor’s younger
brother, W. E. Burleigh, from D. W.
Watsabsugh, who learned the art prer
servatjve under our guidance way back
in the 80s, who has made a success of
the business, but who has been com-:
l»elled to sell on acpount of ill health.
In doing so, he has disposed of the j ar
per to our brother, who is accounted
one of the best equipped country new s
paper men in the state. The brother
mentioned was for years connected
with us in the publishing of the Mt.
Ayr Journal, in the same county, and
afterwards publshed the Ilazelton Ex
press,, In Soutnern Kansas, later on dis
posing of that paper and of late years
being connected with the Semi-Weekly
New’s in his old home at Mt, Ayr,
Brother Ed has the make-up of a first
class newspaper man and has been
tried and not found wanting in all de
partment of newspaper life. We pre
dict for him success in his new venture,
which occurs where he is best known
and most thoroughly appreciated

Shortest Session on Record.
The shortest session of District Court
in the history of Sherman county was
held here last Tuesday. Court con
vened at 9 a.m., heard half a dozen
cases and adjourned sine die at 12
o'clock. Motions in the Houser road
case, also in the Ilowe road c:ise, both
being injunction cases, were heard and
cases put over to the October term.
The two divorce cases w ere not called,
parties not present, so four more
hearts w ill beat as two for sixty days,
longer.
A Serious Accident.
A serious accident happened last
Thursday to Geo McFadden's 17-year
-old son. Kay, near their home a few
miles west of Loup City. The boy was
riding a horse from a neighboring farm,
when in some unaccountable manner he
was thrown from the horse and hurt
about the head, the injury rendering
him unable later to give any account
of how it accurred. When first seen
after the accident, he was leading the
animal, which was dragging itself
along with a badly wrenched back,while
the l»oy w as unable to give any account
of himself or the accident. It is sup
posed that he was riding along when
the horse must have stepped in a hole,
stumbled, throwing itself and the boy
to the ground, resulting as aforesaid
Dr. Jones was called and made the boy
as easy as possible, and he will recover
eventually, but is seemingly unable to
account foj the accident.
Clear Creek Chat.
Ed Shiplev had an arm nearly dislo
cated last week while doctoring a horse.
A colt belonging to James Gray was
badiy cut on a wire fence, Sunday.
Fritz Bickel is a severe sufferer from
rheumatism.
A. If Potter and wife of Litchfield
will attend the National G. A. R. En-j
camnment at Boston.
Henry Keshing will build a huge barn 1
on his place.
Schaupp Siding.
Frank Lorcheck and Fred Dunker
have begun work on the new lumber
yard buildings. Mr. Dunker will run
the yard tor the Keystone people.
Mr. Senice is laying the foundation j
for the depot grounds.
Mrs Andrew Jonassendied Saturday
morning.
Mr. Bly and family went to Arcadia
Sunday.
Corn is looking fine around here.
Claus Martin marketed hogs here last
Thursday.
John Johnson and mother are here
from Wyoming visiting A. Johnson
and looking ater their land.
Some of our people saw the balloon
in the air, which was sent up from
Loup City Thursday, and say it looked
as big as a mountain from here.
