Trip to Yellowstone M, (Continue l front first | ago.)__ it threw water to a height of 50 feet, ' for a period of 15 to 20 minutes. On our return, we witnessed Old Faith ful in one of its regular r>8minute eruptions, which continue for tour minutes, throwing immense volumes j of hot water a distance of 100 feet; in the air, then subsiding, to again play at its regular stated intervals This is the geyser which all tourists nave the pleasure of beholding in action, and one day spent at this point imuresses one with the ideas which the name expresses. After Old Faithful had subsided, wp paid a visit to the formation on the other side of Firehole river, on which are the Bee Hive, Giantess, Punchbowl anti many others. Here the forma tion is marked “Dangerous,” and i from the hollow sound, the numerous holes and the thin crust over which we walked, I tbinK rigb'ly named, for after we had been over it once,1 each seemed to breathe easier and j declared once was enough. After supper, we bad the good fortune to! see the Giant, the castle and Old Faithful all play at the same time. The Giant geyser, as its name im plies. throws water 200 feet in the air and continue* from 30 to GO min utei, and occurs once in ten or twelve days. The Castle s eruption occurs once in 25 hours and was about 00 feet high, throwing water about 30 minutes and afterward roaring steam an equal length of time. On our return from tbs Cas tie, we stopped in the “store” and purchased mementoes of our visit. After a refreshing night’s sleep, we waited a few minutes for the farewell eruption of Old Faithful and started on our journey across the Continent ai divide to the Thumb of Yellow stane lake. After crossing from the Atlantic to ike PaciSc slope, we stopped at “Lacy creek and enjoyed a cool, refreshing drink, and a little farther on, from 8hoshone Point, have a grand view of Shoshone lake and the Teu'on mountains over in j Idaho, fifty miles away, and which ire said to be over 14,000 feet in i jeight. We continue to ascend the slop* )f ibe Continental divide and at un iltitude of 8,840 feet passonee more ,o the Atlantic slope. Sign boards nark the highest points. From Lake i'iew we get oui first view of Yellow itone lake, and one mile further we; ’arnped for lunch near the Thumb of j he lake. After lunch, while walk ng among the geyser formations, jere, we came upon five deer, and I leoured snap shots of them with a] * . iodac. Our afternoon s drive takes is to Bridge Bay, where we camped for the night. Our camping ground is a beautiful place overlooking the lake. The single item of interest, excepting the long stretch of pine woods and an elk, was the Natural Bridge, with its span of thirty feet about forty feet above a small stream. (Continued next wesk.)
