The Eighth Annual Convention of the Sherman County Sunday School Associ ation was held in Loup City Wednesday and Thursday of ia>t week in the M. E. church and those who were priviliged to attend enjoyed every session, espe cially the talks by our State Secretary Prof 11. M. Stiedley and Miss Mamie Haines. The former needs tio introduc tion to the people of Loup City. If more of our people would avail themselves of the opportunity to hear and learn of so able a teacher as Prof Stiedley and to hear Miss Mamie Haines (our primary work r, ) and see her dem onstration-1 on the blackboard is like an oasis in the desert, so fresh and crisp, She held the audience spellbound while going over the lesson on the Twenty third Psalm, l'he school children of the primary department had been in vited to come in after school, seventy ttve or eighty responded and were cap tivated with the instructions. Kear ney county is another exchange added to our list It is owned and published by C. It. Packard, our recent U. P. ' mail clerk who has just bought the plant. The first issue under his man igeuient found its way to our desk last w'cek. It is a neat publication with four home printed pages and is full to the margin with spicy news, bright editorials, and attractive display ads. Having hnown Brother Packard for some time we can say that tlie people of Minden and Kearney county have secured in him an editor of ability and one who will merit their hearty support. The Harry Kimmel Co., one of the best Dramatic companies on the road played this town two nights this week and gave the best of satisfaction. Tues day evening they played the thrilling drama “Saved" to a full house and gave such universal satisfaction that on the following evening every desirable seat was sold before the hour of the opening arrived and the rush for ticket at the door continued until the house was crowded. No less satisfaction was given when in their second appearance they produced the drama, “The Con vict's Daughter,” in which Harry Kimmel played the convict roll in a master effort. He was well supported and ttie audience was deeply impress ed with the production. The special ties were fine. Daisy and Billy Ben nington, in their production of “Her l’rst Husband,” captured the roll and dieted great applause and laughter. The singing was excellent and the orch estra selections weie good, in fact everything was good lrom start to finish. _ A wail of woo was sent up from the Times oflice two weeks ago because Hanker Gulley would not fix tip the old Sliantv in which the Times is publish ed. Very likely if he would pay a little more rent that thing might he done, but who wants to continually be paying something for nothing? Think ot it, a paper that lias enjoyed the patronage of the county judges’ and sheriffs’ oflice and from the district court and the great bulk of the other oflices for* thirteen years, keeping house in a shack w ith holes in the roof’ and “wracks in the floor, under the door’’ big enough to let in a rat. oat. dog or blizzard and even snakes : ndliz/.ards and not ever, pay ing rent t liougit t<> enable tli^ owrer to lix it up, barely enough to pay for the ground (one of the best locations in own) t> sav nothing of a build ng. Hi n far Guiles- hi* practical!v given the Times a home even though it is a decaying shanty. “He it ever so hum ble there is tio place like home.” The owner of that building lias Wen a lather to the Times, and a guardian to its manager through all these years when it seems that it did not have con fidence enough to strike out for itself Hot what is the use. It never lookson | tic bright side of ans thing. Yesterday v.as Thanksgiving and the Times ought to he thankful for all such j REPORT OP THE CONDITION OP THE FIRST BANK OF LOUP CITY CHARTER NO.
