Lewis Bechthold lias sold bis farm three miles northeast of town to Aug ust Dietz of Logan township. Consid eration #2,500. O. Benschoter lost a red pig this week. Weight about 40 pounds. Rickard O'Bryan returned to Grand Island last Wednesday to again take up his position as breakman between Grand Island and North Platte. W. 1). Zimmerman, one of the hust ling land agents of Litchfield was in the city Monday. lie is well pleased with his new location at Litchfield. C. F. Beushaitsen, of Ashton, and populist candidate for county clerk, was at the county seat Friday presum ably looking after his political fence. The Mason City Star has gone back to the regular newspaper form of pub lication. That is just whatthey all do after trying the magizine style awhile. A little baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Dennis last Sunday. It is the first born and in mention it Mr. Dennis naturally grows a little taller and remarks that “She's all right!” Mrs. A. O. Hendrickson will soon move to Kearney where she will join her husband and make their future home. Mr. Hendrickson now has steady employment as mail agent be tween Omaha and Kearney. Wm. Kettenmayer is papa again and has another son to manage. The little fellow is of the regulation size and weight and took up his resideace at the Kettenmayer home last Saturday morning. William feels like wearing a plug hat. The great Ravenna Carnival and Old Settlers Re-union which was held at that place last w eek was a decided success. Quite a good many people from Loup City were in attendance and report a very large crowd and a well conducted program. The postoflice at Rockville was burg larized Wednesday of last week. The thievet blew open the safe and got fifty cents for their trouble We did not get any further particulars except that the safe was greatly damaged. No trace of the robbers has yet been found. Kev. Kennedy, our Baptist minister was at Central City last week in atten dance at the district association. He reports that he secured the next as sociation meeting to convene at Loup City next August. Mr. Kennedy is to be congratulated upon his successful effort to get this appointment at Loup City as such meeting are of great pub lic interest and have a tendancy to draw people here not only temporarily but for permanent homes. Lewis Bechthold will have a cattle sale at Hie Hound Front barn in Loup City, Saturday, October, 3rd, when lie will offer for sale 30 head of cattle, one fine high grade lied Durham bull and the rest are cows, heifers and steers. The sale will be conducted by Jacob Albers aucitoneer, and one years time will be given by purchaser giving note with approved security and draw ing ten per cent per annum. 6 per cent discount for cash on all sums over ten dollars. All suns under ten dollars to be cash without discount. C. If, Plambeck, of Ashton town ship was a pleasant caller last week. Mr. Plambeck has gone quite exten sively into the dairy business. Dur ing tiie best months of the season lie has realized from the side of cream a lone nearly .Soo.oo per month. He thinks that it is the best business that the farmer could engage in, but is a f raid that in time it will be over done, Mr. Plambeck, or any other dairy man need have any fear of the creamery business being overdone so long as the laboring men are kept employed and are earning the present high wages They will consume all the butter that can be produced and at a good price, liven now when the production is so enormous the price of butter and cream has a steady upward tendancy and the demand for tlio article is steadily in creasing. i C. Of course Mrs. Ilale anil Mrs Hover had not a little to do with the transfer. Adam Zahn. of Elm township was doing business in town Monday. He says that the people of bis township are pleased with the republican nom inations for county office and that the republican vote in that part of the county will be materially increased this fall. .Tas. Depew lias just finished mak ing a machine for threshing cucum bers. It is the invention of Mr. F. P. Peterson and will be used on his farm south east of Loup City to thresh the seeds from a large lield of cucumbers. It is said that the seed from this crop will amount to enough in value to pay for the farm. Chas. Reidel who sold his farm some weeks ago is contemplating atrip to California this fall to look up a new locatien. If the country suits him lie will doubtless invest in some property there and arrange to leave here some time during next summer. This com munity can ill afford to loose Mr. and Mrs. lieidel as they are among our verv best citizens. Report comes to us that the U. P. depot at i iannebrog was broken into last week and a gold watch belonging to the depot agent, C. R. Conger and a liox of jewelry belonging to bis wife, were stolen. The stolen property amounted in value to about $50.00. The thieves gained entrance to the building by prying up the window. Their whereabouts has not yet been discovered. The family and house hold goods of Attorney Robert P. Starr arrived Sat urday noon. Robert says he rejoices, not only in the family consolidation, but also in the fact that unlike the pop ulist organ the Northwestern will not state that lie is visiting at his home in Aurora every time lie goes out side of the county. lie has tried tor weeks to get a house to move his family into and has only recently succeeded. Arkansas made this office a pleasant call last Tuesday morning, lie drove oyer from Mason City where himself and wife have been visiting their son John for the past three weeks, Mr. Drake was one of the pioneer settlers of this county but moved to Arkansas a few years ago where they have been pros pering both in health and in a finan cial way Mr. Drake is looking well and says that liis wife lias increased nearly HO pounds in weight since the change of climate. They will return to their Arkansas home next week. Archie Todd was the victim of a most painful am} shocking accident yesterday by which he lost-s an eve. lie was plowing with a riding plow and dropped one of the lines from his hand. He bent .tuickly forward to re cover It, brungliiseya violently in con tract with one of the levers, the sharp end stricking in such a manner that one of his eyes was forced clear out of its place and dropped to the ground. He came into town at once to proscure medical assistance, and lie i.i doing as well as could he expected. Archie has the sympathy of all in this serious mishap.—Arcadia Champion HIGH SCHOOL NOTES. (BY M1SR ELLA POSTER > Winnifred Leach is a new member uf the junior class,. Our school can boast of two base ball nines, namely the first and second. Miss Lela Chase, a graduate of our school, denar ted for Crete, Neb., Mon day noon to attend Doane College. Mr Nicoson is again in school after a tew days absence, owing to sickness. Miss Hickman taught his room do ing his absence. There are iive non-resident pupils in the high school; three in the ninth and two in the tenth grades. Dean Leach and Ervin Rowe have entered the sixth grade. The score of the nine-inning hall game played at the school house last week was won by the second nine by a score of 23 to 20. Ray y. Miss Jessie Culley was a high school visitor last w eek. Romeo Conger is attending school again this fall. Clifton Rowe, Mabla Daddow. Fern Rowe, Henrietta Conger, Eva Frakes, Vance Holcomb, Ray Bradley, Edna Daddow and Robert Keith are all new pupils. •■■ ■ --- ♦ • ♦ — ——— The base ball game between Loup City and Boelus which was played on the Loup City grounds Tuesday, al though very interesting was not at tended by a very large crowd. The Boelus hoys arrived on the noon train and the game was called promptly at 1 o'clock p. m. This hour was named in tlie hope that the full nine innings could be played before the usual train time at 3 o’clock, and on which the boys must return home the same after noon. However only seven even in ning were played when Conductor Taylor and Engineer O’Bryan, who were among the much interested spec tators announced that the great Over land was about to make her return trip southward. Thus ended a pretty contest and the Boelus boys, all big bosky good natured fellows hurriedly gathered up their effects and wended their way to the depot. The Boelus team consisted of Jensen, catcher, Woten, pitcher, F. Ilegdlin, Croat, Thompson, Will Quept, Walt Quept L. Iledglin,and II. O’Bryan. The Loup City nine were composed of Johnson catcher, Knight, pitcher, Waite, Fierce, Mellor. Majors. Depew, Oltman, Winkleraan and O’Bryan.
