The dance which was to come of
last Friday evening, failed to take
place no account of the weather, it

Mrs. Robert F. Starr and little
son, of Aurora arrived here last
Tuesday evening. Mrs. Starr is
quite well pleased with Loup City
and hopes to get settled with her
husband soon, who is a practic
ing attorney here.
Arthur Lane of Arcadia passed
through the city last Tuesday on
hia way home from Indiana where
he hae been for two weeks. He
says that the Middle Leup valley
are much better than any thsng be
has seen on the route. He purch
ased a steam threshing outfit while
away and shiped it home with him.
Senator Wall was tendered a re
ception last Saturday evening by
the ladies of the G. A. R. at their
hall in this city. There was a good
crowdout and nearly all them embers
of the bar were present. A fine pro
gram was rendered and refreshments
wero served. Mrs. /. M. Hunter
presented, on behalf of the ladies a
handsome rocker. The gift was ac
nowledged by Mr. Wall in a very
fine speech. The occasion was
most pleasant.
J. II. Parakali, the owner of the
new grist mill, and who was absent
from the city when the high wind of
last week wrought such destruction
to his mill building, arrived here
Thursday ot last week and set Lis
force of carpeuters at work rebuild
ing the structure. The buildiDg
carried no insurance and all damage
done was a total loss. Mr. Parshall
has the sympathy of all our people
and is to he congratulated for his
enterprise and pluck in rebuilding
under such tryiDg circumstances.

Willie Minohull and cousin of
Litobfield were visiting in Loup City
last Sunday.
Frank Lorchick has just purchased
a new steam threshing outfit. It is
a first class turn out.
Tne Woodmen have been drilling
the last week for the prize which is
to be given at the picnic at Arcadia
Aug. 12th.
Emery Knight has <juit the dray
and gone to work with Lee Adamson
at the carpenter trade.
We just received our new cabinet
case from James Depew and it is a
good piece of workmanship.

of his ankle, the result of ball play
ing has kept him from work for sev
eral weeks.
The ladies of the German Aid Soc
iety will give an ice cream social at
the German Church on Saturday Aug
ust 15th. All those who wish to en
joy a delicious dish of ice cream
should not fail to call on them.
G. 11. Brock, of Hazard township
took a few minutes time to call on
the editor while at the county hub
Tuesday. Mr. Brock reports grain
lighter than expected in his section.

Mrs. W. Hawk, of Webster town
•hip is dangerously ill, having first
taken down with some stomach
derangement and afterwords taken
with thyphoid fever. Her sickness
brought on premature child birth
ami the infant died in a few hours
after being born. Sbe is very low
at this writing.
The lecture at the opera house
in this city by Prof. W. R. Jackson,
of Wesylin University Place, Lincoln
was quite well attended and very
much appreciated by the teachers of
the institute and all who were pres
ent. The subject was "Practical
Education.” Mr. Jackson is a good
speaker and a gentleman of fine
address.
W. R. Mellor and wife returned
from Yellowstone Park last Wed
nesday. whero they have been for a
pleasure outing. They report a
very pleasant time during their two
weeks stay. They were in the park
nine days and on their return trip
visited the Hot Springs and Wind
Cave in South Dakota. It took
them two hours to go into the cave
abont one and a half miles and to a
depth of 150 feet and one hour to
come out. In describing the scene
within the cave and the experience
he had while there Mr. Mellor tells a
very intei^stiug story.

which averaged 40 bu. per acre.
From him we learn that Mrs. Gray
has been visiting friends in Wiscon

life with the best wishes of all who
know them. The Northwestern
joins their long list of friends in
wishing them a long, prosperous and
happy wedded life.

Parkhurst resides on his farm in

bride will make the farm their future

Mr. and Mrs. J. Goldsworthy and
sister of Mrs. E. A. Brown of this
city. We join their friends in ex
tending to them a pleasant and
prosperous future.
