The Ladies of the G. A. It. are solicit
ing for the Kansas City flood sufferers.
All articles donated will be thankfully

will be boxed ready for shipping.

F. E. Brewer has picked from live to
ten bushels of. strawberries every day
this week and yet he seems unable to
more than supply the immediate de
mand. Frank undoubtedly has one of
the finest strawberry fields in this part
of the state.
The Children's Day exercises at the
M. E. Church last Sunday evening was
attended by a crowded house and the
program was a pleasing one to all pres
ent. The church is now far to small to
accomodate all who take special inter
est in such exercises.

rived here with his family from Mason
City YY'ednesday and will visit with
friends and relatives for a few days.
YVe are sorry to hear, through Hi. that
his father is quite poorly in health.
Charley YY’ulf, a former resident of
Sherman county,but how of Corvallis,
Oregon sends us a big dollar and orders
his name enrolled on our subscription
list. Charley left here iu April and re
ports that the country is fine where he
now resides with plenty of fruit etc.
Cherries he says are so plentiful that
they can be bought at ten cents a gal
lon. Ob, yes. Charley also reports that
they are rejoicing over the arrival of
an eight pouud baby boy which came
to them on the 12th. inst.

THE HEW SWEEDISH CIlliKCH
Last Sunday, June 21, the Sweedish
Baptist congregation of Balsora dedi
cated tliier new church. The pro
gram was an interesting one and was
thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended
There was preaching service at 11
o’clock a. tn. After preaching they
adjourned to a bowery beside the
church for dinner. The spread was tit
for a king and every one enjoyed it
much. After dinner the Kev. Mr Carl
son. of Stormsberg, Nebraska preached
the dedication sermon in English lan
guage. He was followed by the Itev.
lluselback, of Valley, this state, who
preached a dedication sermon in the
Sweedish tongue.
This is indeed a happy change from
an old sod church with a brush roof to
a substantial frame building, and we re
joice with our Sweedish neighbors and
friends in thier prosperity. The new
building is free from debt.

home of Mrs. Jas. Johansen and with
other friends in the city.

Ohlsen Bros, commenced the work o(
building a line brick residence on the
furm of Emil Shuman, near Ashton, Fri
day. They have in there employ Mr.
E. Klappworth of Grand Island, one of
ttie fastest brick layers in the state. Mr.
Klappworth is the gentleman that
assisted them in the building of the new
school house.

There was a smoth man calling on the
people of Clear Creek, Monday repre
rei.ting himself to be a doctor and
specialist, lie secured about two hun
dred dollars; and by the time the
people discovered their mistake he was
well on his way to Ravenna. He stopped
at several places between here and
Ravenna, and tried to work his scheme
without success. AH trace of him was
lost at Grand Island.
John Terhune has sold his ranch and
is having corn hauled from town to fin
ish feeding a lot of cattle and hogs now
on the ranch.
Walter Palmer, who has been sick the
past week is better.
M. S. Tafi'e has bought the Commer
cial hotel and intends to make a resid
ence of it
Mrs. A. II. Gray and daughter Zella
left this week for Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Miss. Mvrtie Palmer came home
Monday eviuing from Bellevue Collage,
to spend vaction with her parents.

The Ashton base ball grounds are be
ing tlxed up in shape for a good ball
game which is promised between Ash
ton and Loup City Friday.
Mr. Sorensen, of Elba is plastering
Sestalt's house.
An important meeting of the M. W.
A. of Ashton is called to meet on im
portant business next week.
The It,.dura store was papered this
week by J. F Smith.
Mr. d. w. Long, of Loup City was an
early visitor at Ashton on Tuesday do
ing some real e.-tite and legal business.
We also nit iced Frank Brewer’s smiling
countenance in our burg last week.
The Youths of the town have been
celebrating the 4th of July early and
late the past week with the torpedo and
firecracker. Ashton will have no do
lugs or celebration this coming 4th. so
every one will go visiting their sisters,
cousins and aunts or some other fellows
sister. —Later: It is reported to us
that Ashton will have a small home cel
ebration In the shape of a free dance all
afternoon, some street games for tlie
youths and fireworks during the even
ing.
