Fred Stenger, of Columbus, Xebr.
arrived this week to look after his land
interests in Sherman county. He is the
gentleman who bought the Jung farm

north of Loup City.
The Loup City school closed today
aud the large ami small alike hail the
three months vacation with delight.
The vacation, however, will bo with
some, as busy as wag the school days,
hut It will be u change, and in a measure
a rest.
The Village board, at their meeting
last Tuesday night, among other things
granted a druggest permit to Odendahl
Bros, and appointed W. II. I’edler
marshall and street commissioner, at a
salary of §40 00 per month.
F. W. Fuller, of Hazard waa in town
Wednesday and paid hit respects to this
otllce. II* came over to endorse a land
sale of three quarter sections, the re
maining part of what Is known as the
Fuller ranch, In Bristol township He

Mr aud Mrs. Owen of Arcadia, par
ents of our genial harness maker, Lou
Owen, have been visiting in tbe city for
a few days past. We recieved a pleas
ant call from Mr. Owen while here. He
has recently recovered from a long sick

ually getting better. They return

people of the Baptist church have cense

Mr. Arthur Swigart, son of Mrs. 8. G
Swigart, of Hazard, has reeently been
discharged from the United States
army for disability, and is now at
home. He has been In the service eight
or nine years and has done duty in
the Philippines and Samar.—Revenna

day noon for a three months visit to
friends aud relatives in Ohio' He has
relatives also In Iowa and will stop

The base ball game of Wiggle Creek
vs. Austin was played on the Loup City
diamond last Saturday afternoon, aud
resulted la a sweeping victory for the
Austinites, the score Handing, at the
olose, 9 to 34 The boys from the west
side did not play their usual good game
of ball, and the east side club was
materially strengthened by subs from
Ashton and Loup City.
The electric storm of last Tuesday
played general havoc with the teb
phone system all over town and the men
are busy reparing the damage. The
lightening struck ,tlie southeast corner
of tho Keystone Lumbar Co.'s olfice and
badly shattered the battlement. It
came down inside the building and
stiired things up in general.
John i.einmger has now in stock
three car loads of 1 umber aud tbrev of
posts as a start towards stocking up his
new lumber yard, but is still lacking
the proper dimension stuff with which
to build the sheds He has, however,
started the foundation this week to
a large ware house in the rear of his
lumber cilice, and i* expecting several
more car loads of lumber when the work
of shed building will be pushed a* rap
idly as possible We understand that
Mr. Geo. Leininger has disposed of his
interest in the elevator business at
Smlthland, Iowa, ami started for Loup
Oitv last Monday, and will ba associates
with his brother in the lumber enter
prise.

county, arrived here last Monday
evnening and lias opend up a real estate
otlice on main street. lie made us a
pleasant cail Tuesday morning and
informed us that he has made arrange
ments to do an extensive business in
the near future, being connected with
and in close communication with sever
al prominent real estate tiring in the
eastern part of the state and In other
states as well. Mr. Leach is a practical
real estate man. His farlher, now locat
ed at Albion did a great deal of survey
ing in tlie West and in Sherman county
in tin early day. Mr. Leach is well
known in the real estate circles and is
a member of the Nebraska Ileal Estate
Association, and to list, your lands
with him means quick sales. lie in
forms us that he is expecting a good
many laud buyers here from the eastern
part of Nebraska soon and wishes to se
cure a good list of property to show up
when they come.
WBDDINO ANNIVKKSKHY.
The fortieth anniversary of the wed
ding day of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Angier,
was celebrated at their home in Loup
City the evening of the 21st of May, at
which time, the members of Oriental
Chapter No. 78 O. E S. and some speci
al friends, joirefl with the jadge and
his good lady in celebrating that im
portant event, Mr. Angler and Miss
Olive tl. Smith were married at Dixon
Ills.,the 21st day of May 1803. and
move to Sherman county the firgt day
of April IsTS. and have resided here ever
since. They were the recipients of a
Dumber of valuable prosents, among
which was a beautiful set of China
dishes by the O. E S. of which the
judge and his wife have been meiiber*
since 1S70. A very enjoyable time was
bad by all present. Mr. and Mrs Angier
are good entertainers, both at home and
in public, and at all times willing to
assist, in social affairs,
Owing to the fact that the judge has
been abusing his wife somewhat in
having her do the washing, cooking,
and washing of the dlsha°, the presents
were mostly intended for Mrs. Angier.
Just before the opening of the next day,
refreshments were served, after which
the guests wended their way to their
respective homes, wishing the judge
and his better half many happy days.

the laws of this great Nation for the
purpose of decorating the grav. a of our
country's dead. In the name of our
fallen dead comrads, and all our loved
ones, wo kindly ask you, one and all,
not to uiar or blacken the record of out
coming Decoration day by acts not
calculated to reverence the dead. With
these thoughts before us and for this
purpose only, we respectfully ask all
persons to unite in discouraging such
acts, and especially public dancing In
our fair city on this coining Decoration
