Gelczenski is building an addition on his barn in town. —Owing to the scarcity of ties the section hands got a week lay ofl Saturday. —The moving picture show iD the hall Friday last had a very slim attendance. —For the latest styles in millinery and dry goods see G. W. Marvell & Co’s. line. —Mrs. T. I). Wilson has been vis iting her daughter. Mrs. Currier, in Iowa, the past two week. —Mr. Wm. Jakob, supervisor of Bristol township was a pleasant caller at Ashton Monday. —Knutzen's park pavillian has been rebuilt and enlarged the past week for the dances the coming season. —If you are going to get that new set of harness for spring work drop in and see Jim Bartunett’s hand made line. —The interior cf the Kuutzen re sidence has been repapered and re painted the past week by Smith the Ashton artist —Frank Goppa came from Omaha Friday night for a three months stay at Ashton. The judge is looking hide and hearty. —Supervisor Garstka accompan ied by Taylor Gibson of Loup City spent several daysof last week in ipecting the county bridges in this part of the county. —See the new display ad. of R. L. Dobson on this page. Mr. Dobson lias some fine thoroughbred horses which you should see if you are in terested in breeding this year. —We made a mistake last week in stating that E. G. Taylor was one of the board of directors of the Ashton Grain and Live Stock Asso ciation. We should have said E. G. Paige. —The Itev. Geo. LoDgstaff has been secured as perminent pastor of the Presbyterian churoh here and will assume bis pastorial duties commencing Sunday, April 20, and will reaide in town if a residence can be secured. —The village board has ordered the flanges oq the culvert adjoining the park replaced, they having been taken out to make a drain for the surplus water through the park. The culvert is iu poor condition and if not put in proper shape before the rains, there may be cause for damage suite against the village. —We saw Master Peter Jezewski hitting the trail for home Friday from Oak Creek with his fishing rod and catch of bull heads, not many in number but much in size. Peter has the distinction of being the first decuple of Walton to make a catch this year aDd as Stash Sowarski is second they are naturally proud of their feat. —The Ashton socialists met in regular session Saturday night and transacted the general routine of business. The referendum vote ta ken as to the site of the national headquarters was decided in favor of O.naha. Much interest was taken iu the matter of organization and propragaods work, the finances of the local being in a flourishing con dilion. — August Beushausen has been appointed and has accepted the po sition of road overseer for the dis triot of Ashton village, to work the village roads under the supervision of its trustees. It will be remem bored that the village of Ashton proper has the right to create a road district in the village and it becomes their duty to work the roads withiu the corporate limits as they may deem proper, and now all the streets and roads inside the vil age are under their direct super vision. — Aug. Tesmer now occupies tht Walt Blumer farm near town. —Master services were held ir Ashton churches Sunday with a large attendace. —The best paint on earth the Horse Shoe brand. For sale by Key stone Lumber Co. —Residences in Ashton ate at a premiun, not a vacant house being available for any purpose. —Mr. and Mrs. W. Detrichs of Rockville township were pleasant visitors at Ashton Saturday. —Sidewalks are being built front ing on the Rapp, Sack, trolcznski, Jatnrog, Marvell and Ojendyk pro perty. —The Easter Monday services at the Catholic church here was the largest attended since the building of that edifice. —W. II. Davis of York Neb. brother-in-law of ye Ashton scribe was doing business at Ashton and paying his respects the past week. —Frank Lukachewski is running balehelors ball in the brick residence on the late Dobsen farm and Jake Rein is working one of the Rein farms. —The Ashton youths assembled Saturday evening and held several very interesting bouts with the gloves in the so called tnauly art of self defense. —The C. C. Boyed sale of house hold goods took place as advertized Saturday at the Zink store building and was largely attended, the goods selling at prices. — An interecine war is now emin ent in the ranks of the beef trusts. We have heard of wars on cotton a line, lardine, and oleomargerine the Phillipincs and other "einea,” but this interecine is a new one on us. But such is this “streneou# life.” —Cal. Shaupp came up from Cen tral City last week to look up a good location for a barbershop, and while here a number of our citi zens took occasion to have Cal. slick them up a little for Kazter. We have not heard as to whether Cal. will locate here again ornot, but if he does Ashton will ba strictly in it as far as a good baiber is con cerned. —Mr. Dodeogorft, representing the Fremont Brewing company spent Friday and Saturday here in the interest of his firm. We under stand that he has made arrange ments for the sale of the Nebraska product of beer at Ashton, where it now looks as though there will be four wet goods emporiums the com ing municipal year. —If you intend to purchase any thing in the line of wall paper, car pets, window shades, curtains, lace and room mouldings I will gladly show you my samples and prices on the same.
