Bunnel left for her home at Burwell last Thursday after a few days visit here Win. Neville reports a busy season at the Houck blacksmith shop. Billie is a good workman. T. M. Reed has put down two wells on the cattle ranch of Geo. Densdaie and one for Mrs. 11. Taylor. John O’Bryan has the position of engine tender at the engine house, this city iu place of M. C. Mulick resigned. Carsten Truelsen ordered 1500 pounds of Alfalfa of T. M. Iteed and is going to seed down another 75 acres. Lewis Btrankman, Geo. Peininger and Jacob Albers, all of Logan township, were county seat visitors last Saturday. James Landers of Arcadia was down last Tuesday. He remained in the city over night and attended the Masonic lodge. The Masonic Lodge of this city had a little blowout at their regular meeting last Tuesday night. A splendid time is reported. L. Munn of Iia/.ard, was doing business at the county seat Tuesday. He came in to shake hands aad re new his subscription to this paper, j The Nebraska Telephone company will have their central ofllue in this city at the residence of Dr. A. J. Kearus. Mr. Kearns will have charge of the office. Best flour on the market at Denni’s. Callaway ha* a genuine case of small pox. Fred Iteidel was doing busines at the county seat Satuaday. Cabbage and tomatoe plants, five cents per. dozen at W. T. Gibson’s. Trunks, valises, shawl straps, and atchel handles, kept at W. S. Owen s sharness store. It has bean raining here, off and on, for the last 48 hours and as we go to press fully two inches of wat er is reported. We understand that Stewart Ware has purchased a half interest in a barber shop at St. Paul. Lovejoy Mercar, of Oak Creek was doiug business in the city last Monday. He dropped in to ex change ideas with the editor. Dr. Parmer, of Litchfield made another trip to Loup City Tues day to attend the case of Ray Pedler. He gives but little hopes of his recovery. Clyde Hawthorn, Walter Sorinsen, James Landers, S. W. Goddard and Rev. Hodges of Arcadia and W. M. Smelser of Rockville, und 8. J. Fair of Kearney were in the city last Tuesday night attending the .Mason ic lodge. The German Verien organization has decided to give a grand cele bration at Loup City on the Fourth of July. We understand that thev will ask some of the fraternal organ izations to assist in the undertaking Success to the enterprise. Col. Black, ef Litchfield was doing business at the county seat Wednesday. Mr. Black is one of the leading democrats of the west side and will represent Sherman County in the state democratic aou vention at Grand Island this year. The hand boys met Monday even ing and decided to reorganize. All the parts are now tilted and there is no reason why we should not have a good baud. We bespeak the sup port of the business men, for with out home support no local band can he successful. We received a letter a tew Jays ago from attorney W. H. Williams who is in Los Angeles C.iifornia, Air. Williams has gone them for his health and stated that the clrnate is good and he is recovering somewhat from his recent spell of sieknes, He sends his regards to friends here. Ray Pedler is quite sick at present. He has been ill all winter, with a very severe attack of lung trouble which has apparently developed into consumption. He took to his bed last Friday and hes since beea pros trate with frequent spells of cough ing whieh indicates bronchitis, but the physician says that his luDgs are badly atlected. The school board have decided to hire teachers for the Loup City schools at their next regular meet ing, which will be the last Saturday evening in this month. They will very likely hire the janitor at the same time. The contract with the janitor will likely be to do all the work ab >ut the school house and grounds except, mechanical work. Aliss. Maud Reynolds who has been teaching school at Elsworth, Sheridon county, Nebr., arrived here last Tuesday after an absence of nearly a year. Sue says that she is pleased to get back home and that this country looks like the gar den of Eden compared with the sand hills of the northwest. Her father Air. S. S. Reynolds was in the city to meet her. There will be service in the Ger man church of Loup City Sun day, May J 8, at 10:30 o'clock a. m. Four girls, Alma Schneidereit. Emma Jung. Carolina Schoening and Ber tha Miller will be confirmed. German service will also he held in Ashton the same day at 2:30 w'clock p. rn. The ceremony took place at l-o’clock m , with Rev. Burg ofliciating. Mr Porter is well known here ami his many friends joiuin wishing him and bride a long and happy life.
