But he neglected to add, “it was foundered by me". It is confidently predicted that President Roosevelt will be able, with streneon* effort, to survive the opinion of Henry Watterson. If you are a good republican you can’t do a better thing than to sub scribe for your own local party pa per. The Northwestern will vis't you fifty-two tiroes a year for a dollar. A writer to the Sia te Journal savs that state treasurer Sluefler and ex treasurer Meserve were both good men before they went into office, • andtliat politic* and politicians have branded them as being corrupt and dishonest. It (ices 1 k that way. The census report on the manu factures of California shows that the Pacific eoast has not been behind in the industrial progress of the coun try. The number of establishments has incresed nearly tiO per cent, and the scale of wages advanced over 15 percent in the last ten years. Mrs. Carrie Nation received a hatch et as a present from an Eastern manufacturing firm. She accidentally dropped it, cutting off the big toe of her right foot. Although she smashed a joint, some of her enemies will sty that Mrs. Nation tookadrop too much and that it has injured her standing. What stringe things do happen. Last week a fellow came into this office, paid Lis subscription and or dered the paper stopped because we were outspoken about the saloon row. He had not left the cilice ten minutes when a gentleman entered and, throwing down a big silver dol lar, ordered the paper for a year for the stone reason. Ttie row which happened lost ^ week in the saloon building run by John Otlewski, and1 of which we mentioned in our last issue resulted in the village board holding a special meeting Tuesday morning and revoking the license issued to Cal. Sprague, also in the arrest and fine of two of the participants in the row. One of them, lid. Oltman was a:rested and fined S2 00 and costs, and the other a Clias. Govryck, of Farwell or Ashton who was arrested r.nd fined five dollars and cost. We understand that warrants are out for others who were ingaged in the row. The authorities should keep right on until they have done as thorough a job of bringing them all to justice as the fellows themselves did when they were breaking billiard cues over each others heads. There had been too much lawlessness going on and the citizens are thoroughly artoused and demand that the laws he respected and that order bo maintained in our town in the future. About a month ago my friend and I went to class meeting, held in a hard shell church not far from where 1 live. About five years ago my right ear began to sing, and this kept on getting worse, until I lost my hearing in this ear entirely. I underwent a treatment for catarrh, for three months, without any success, consulted a num ber of physicians, among others, the most eminent ear specialist of this city, who told me that only an operation could help me, and even that only temporarily, that the head noises would then cease, but the hearing in the affected ear would be lost forever. I then saw your advertisement accidentally in a New York paper, and ordered your treat ment. After I had used it only a few ilays according to your directions, the noises ceased, and to^iay, after five weeks, my hearing in the diseased ear has been entirely restored. I thank yon heartily and beg to remain Very truly yours, F. A. WERMAN, 730 S. Broadway, Baltimore, Md.
