The republican electors of Sherman coun ty, Nebraska are hereby requested to send delegates from their respective townships : to meet in convention at Loup City. Neb , on j Wednesday, August 'list , 11101 ut U P. M for the purpose of electing six delegates to j the Republican State convention to bo held j in the city of Lincoln on August '.0, 1001, to ! elect a County central committee and to nom inate a county ticket as follows: Judge, Clerk, Treasurer, Sheriff Superintend, cut and Coroner. also to transact such other business as may properly come before said convention. Right, here it was a little slack but not more so than many other places that prayed just as fervantly as we- did. _ I The long continued hot spell was 'broken last Friday, since which this part of the vineyard has enjoy ed from I'* to 13 degrees < f a drop in the mercury until yesterday when ^ it again reached 102. During the twenty days from July 8, to 28, inclusive the mercury ranged from 102 to 108 with the single exception of the lD when it did not go above 98. The lower temperature the past week has been of great benefit to tin growing corn. W. J. Bryan said at Chicago the other day that “imperialism” was the great issue between the tvo parties. Mr. Bryan will discover that the bugaboo of imparialism is not scaring very many and that if made an issue will split the demo cratic party nearly in twain. His so called “imperialism has but one side to it, and that as far as it has been carre l is for tbebeneSi of the United States. Democrats see tiiis as well as Republicans, and an attempt to make it a national issue for 1901 will give the Republican parly a leverage cipial to free silver in ’96. There is a very large acreage of corn ; in Sherman county that is in very ' flue condition and with a little rain will yet make a good crop. This almost seems surprising after our continued drouth, hut a drive over the country put renewed hopes in us. The rough feed question is not bv any means as serious as it is made out to be. This part of the county has a sufficient quantity of rough feed to supply it and a quan tity to spare if b is carefully I > li ed after and every load <>f cviiy kind gathered before it spoils. Thai hay is going to he a good pin e goes without say ing for there are many places that will lie compelled to bn k to their neighbors for it which wid consequently make it high, and if our farmers will carefully gather every blade of grass to be had and then cut and cure all fodder there will he hay to sell and at a very good price. This section is not near so bad 1 tt as some others, and while we arc furnishing them feed they are re turning us money that will com pen aato for the short crop. Mr. \Y. M. Shull, one of Slit rm; n counties most, intelligent ami It • t posted farmers, called at tins office leu days ago tnd was presented with a copy of the Twentieth Century Farmer, Nebraska’s popular farm journal, published by the Omni a lice company. Mr. Shull took it home and carefully read it and last Tuesday he come hack with these deductions: “If you wish you can say for me that 1 consider the; Twentieth Century Farmer, without 0 an exception, the best farm journal! I ever bad in my house. I am tult-t ing agricultural papers now and have 1 for a good many years but there is ! none of them equals that paper. I shall subscribe tor it.
