session was given expression through the
veto of this measure It was a bill to
provide that in the vote on constitutional
amendments a majority of the ebetors
voting on the amendments shall h stif
fielent to pass the amendnu nt The 1-011
stitutinon now requires a inajorin of all
voles east at the election
Governor I Met rich said In regard to his
action on hills that lit- paid no attention 1
to the introducer and iu fact did not !
know who the introducers of tin gri at
majority of bills signed ware tin,, or two
numbers on me to see him about their j
measures but Ibis wa not the rule The
enrolled measures bon no ttntn un 1 gave
no intimation in him whose bills they ,
were. Me said Ills Velots of appropria
tions were made necessary by the fact
that the resources of the slate were too 1
small to meet what the legislature had
planned to make them pay.

LINCOLN, Neb., April G.—Tile new
supreme court commls-ion wil' prob
ably be divided inti thtee distinct
branches, each to consist of three
members. Assignment of cases wil'
le made by the court proper, which
will remain in full possession of the
present supreme couit rooms. The
commission will oeu|ly a series of
ante-rooms on the second door of th«
ipuilding and some of the oral argu
ments wil be heard in the senate
chamber. It is presumed the three
judges will devote their attention al
most exclusively to arguments cn mo
tions, leaving the preparation of opin
ions to he coninu-sioners, subject, of
course, to the court's approval.
Governor Dietrich was interviewed
by several persons intero.-ted in the
rppointment of the Nebraska commis
sioner to the Pan-American exposi
tion. There are already five appli
cants for the position and still othei
names are frequently mentioned in
connection with the appointment.
Among them is Representative Hib
l.ert, autlior of the Dill creating the
office, who has s'rong endorsements
end is making a vigorous fight for
the plac“. Although the governor
has given no intimations, it is under
stood that he will sele t some one
who has had experience in managing
rxhihits, or who lias in same way
been connected with an rxp.'si ion.
Various ideas for the state's exhibit
at tlie exposition have been advanced
Some would have the state represent
ed by a typical sad house and others
believe a small but modern cottage,
characteristic of Nebraska’s most up
to-date architecture, would make a
better showing. Whatever may be
tlie nature of the building, one thing
i« settled, and that is that no effort
will be spared to show to as good ad
■ antage as possible the agricultural
and educational resources of the state.
The legislature enacted few laws
which will in any way affect th • in
surance interests of the state. The
mo.-t important measure of this class
is the act repealing the mutual hog
insurance law. The effect of the pass
age of this law will be to prevent fu
ture organization of thes° companies,
all those heretofore existing having
failed or gone cut of business. An
act to repeal the hail insurance law
was introduced, hut because one or
two of these companies are still do
ing business it was soon defeated.
