McKinley has 281 Electoral Votes, Hryan 142 In Doubt
24.—Hhcrman County llehaves Nicely and Dives Sub
stantial (Jains for Prosperity.
The democrats have been saved from themselves again, and
'trill they be thankful.
From all over the country comes the glad tidings that
President McKinley has been re-elected by an electoral vote
larger than he reeieved in 1 MIX}. He not only carried all the
states that he did in '0<J but many of them by increased ma
jorities.
The vote in the United States Tuesday clearly indicates that
the democratic party did not dare trust our country to their
chosen standard bearer. Who can trust a party that will nom
inate men that they dare not trust themselves.
The Republican candidates for congress in the First and Sec
ond districts are oleeted, the other four distriets are in doubt
with the chances in favor of fusion. Seventeen counties in the
.Sixth gives Kinkaid a majority of 408, which possibly will la
wiped out when all counties are in.
McKinley prosperity will drive the ship of state tor four
years more, and the stars and stripes will continue to wave
over the Philippines, The ruthless hand of Democracy ci-n
l*Yi7yt retard its ascendency nor detract from its glory. Agui
naldo, like Queen J,il, sees ids last remaining Impe go dow n
to his political grave and our soldier hoys will erect a tuneral
pvre over his defeat that humanity w ill by proud of in genera
tions to come.
“Great is Tammany and Crokeris its prophet" was tue war
cry that sent Bryan to defeat in New York. I hat little piece
^j{ eloquence from Mr. Bryan wasequal to Burchard’s ‘■Bum.
^Romanism and Rebellion" in ’H I. Tho people, of New- Voi le,
did not seem to look through the same spectacles that Mr.
Bryan did. That most corrupt ring, Tammany, that the
world knows of has got a just rebuke and with it Colonel
Bryaa.
The zone of Republicanism is gradually growing in Sherman
county, and in the next few years, at the same rate of gain we
will see her vote cast as it should be. Ilypocracy and false
hood will excite people to a pitch which astonishes even them
selves after they gain their composure. It was only the con
stant nagging and misrepresentation of facts that has kept old
Sherman in the calamity ranks up to this time.
The Democrats go out of Sherman county with a groat 1\
reduced majority. In 1890 Bryan lelt ^ ll*' c \
majority of 428. This year it was reduced to 240 a loss to
the democratic party of 188. This of itself is an endorsement
of MoKinley and his prosperous and healthy administration.
J. w. Long took a bad attack of cramps Tuesday night as
the returns began to roll up McKinley majorities and by the
time Indiana was assured safe for McKinlev John had to re
tire. Never mind John prosperity of the McKinley brand will
save vou.
S. F. Reynolds would like to have it understood that lie is
the paramount issue when it comes to constable in Loup City
twp. No nomination is required nor opposition brooked, but
he will be elected without the aid or consent of any other
candidate on earth.
Elm township, although giving Bryan a majority of 12, i*

Bryan’s majority being 41 less than four yearsago
Mark Hanna passed through South 1 ha hot a and touched
the boundry lines of Nebraska, and loe and behold, Aladin
like his touch was magic. “(Ireat is” prosperity “and” Hanna
“is its prophet." furry the news to Agumaldo.
