The contracting parties are some of the best people of Nebraska and live near Rockville The bride and groom have the good wishes of their friends, for a long, suc cessful and contented life.—Ravenna News. However that may be he Is to bo congratulated on hiN success in se curing this worthy lady for a life partner.—Ed. Wm. Jacob, the well known Hayestown farmer. Is one of the few men iu this country making a specialty of wheat growing who makes a success. This has been one of the poorest wheat' seasons ever experienced in this section, the season of 1H8I excepted, yet he thinks he will have between two and three thousand bushels of wheat this year. He had one hundred acres of winter wheat which turned out very well and he has cut most of his spring wheat from which he expects to get some returns.—Ravenna News. Sherman county has. in Mr. Jacob a first class farmer, who It would be well for other farmers to pattern after Mr. Jacob has in the past few years built some very substantial buildings on his farm and otherwise improved bis property to such an extent that he has now a successful business and a comfortable home with pleasant surroundings. —Ed. ASHTON LOCALS Mr. J. E. Conklin is confined to his bed with kidney trouble but at present writing is greally Improved. Mr and Mrs. Henry Howard returned from their visit Tuesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Taylor came up from St Paul Saturday, returning Monday. Mr Rex Lamphier Is visiting with his par ents at Ashton. Mr. Lamphicr holds the po sition of operator at Aurora. Mr. Will Hade Is beautifying our school house fence with a coat of paint. Some of the boys filled the top of Leschins' Uy’s photo car with beer kegs last Friday night, and the shame was that all the kegs were empty. Dr. Howard left Thursday morning for a two weeks visit in Wyoming. A social was given at J. P. Taylor's Monday night in honor of Rev. Humphreys and wife who left Wednesday morning for a two weeks visit with Mrs. Humphrey's folks in Polk Co. P O. Paige and Henry Schwartz, jr. took in the circus at Grand Island Thursday. There is a rumor of a wedding at Ashton in the near future JIM CLEAR CHEEK NEWS. Last week's rains helped the corn crop very much and the probabilities are that Sherman county will have an average yield The late planted corn is the best. Lawrence P. Nissen has left for the west. Frank Albln has purchased a farm in Uut tier county and will make that bis future home John Mead and two of Mr. Shipply's boys left for Harvard and If they find work will remain away until corn is ready to pick. Frank Curry reports the death of his father in Colorado. Mr. Currey was a former resi dent of this county. HbcobliKR. Church, Loup City, on Saturday after noon. Aug. tth. at 3 o'clock, when it is hoped that all members will be in attendance as elections will then take place for the next conference year. K. church at 10:30 after which he will administer the Sacrament of the Lords Supper in which all Christians are In vited to participate. Robertus, Gcamun minister of Buffalo, New York, arrived here last Thurs day and will take up his residence here. He will preach at Ashton next Sunday and on Sunday, August 12th at Kelso. Sunday. He preached last Sunday in the Adventist church and those who heard him say that he is a very able speaker. The teachers’instituto for Sherman county opened last Monday with a good attendance and as we go to press it is reported that there are 02 teachers enrolled. There are three able in structors, Miss Margaret C’leland, of Cheyenne, Wyoming. C. R Atkinson of York, Nebraska and W. T. Stock dale of Arlington, Nebraska who are doing good work and well merit the praise accorded them. The two hundred new chairs have arrived and the large auditorium room in the school house is now comfortably seated and occupied for the occasion.
