At 10::t0 a column, consisting of all the civic societies were formed up and down Railroad street, and bead ed by the Leap City Cornet band marched arround the s<piure, after which they filed into the square and were stationed in double file facing the speaker’s stand. tiers a large crowd had congre gated and after listening to some fine selections by the hand was enter tained by the reading the of Declara tion of Independence by J. W. Long followed by a 20 minutes speech from A. P. Calley. Both the read ing and the speech were creditably delivered and listened to with a marked degree of interest and often applauded. The afternoon sports were then announced by the marshall of the day, C. L. Drake aud the crowd dispersed for dinner, After the noon hour had passed the erowd, (abeut 4,000) gathered aronnd tke block eoutb of the pri mary school building where the af ternoou wee fully occupied witn various kinds of amusements which bad been arranged for their enjoy ment. The bycicle races and ball game were especially interesting.
