Confession of One of the-Irtlcljitore Hi the Cold Blooded Crime. Never in the history of Box Butte county, or any where else in the utata of Nebraska, if the voluntary confession nf nn of the t artie to the awful crime hrftrue. has there been committed a I munler so cold blooded and harrowing as that for which August F. Jahnke is to day standing trial in the Box Butte cour.ty court house. Blow in the confession of Olive Olson the tool of Jahnke, the prime instigator of the plot and the deed ttiat sent the soul of Michael Sierk, without a mom ent' warning, to it final accoutring. For cool and deliberate flendishness the story it tells has no parallel in the crimi nal records of Nebraska. THE COKFEaON. Jahnke planned to kill Sierk along in January. He told me of his plans, nd wanted me to help hitu, and agreed to divide with me. We went lo Sierk's house, and Jahnke told him that there was some pipe in a well that he could have if he would go down after it, and Mike said he would. We got a picket mpe and let him down in the well, which was about 120 feet dep. We got a clevis to let the rope through then we tied t ho rope around a niece of stick and we told Mike to get on the slick and lowered him down. There wus a piece of piping in the bot tom ef the well which stuck up out of the water about four feet. Our plan was to pull him up close to the top, cut the rup and let him go down, and it would kill him. We did this and Jahnke cut the rope and Mike went down, but we found it did not kill him. Jahnke sars, '-Well, we cannot kill him now and we must get him up." So we let the rope down and pulled him out He was hurt a little hut not bad. The water in the well saved his life. He was wet and cold and we liad to drive two miles so Jahnke gave him his fur overcoat to show him that be was friend ly to him, so thai he would not suspect what we liad done. Jahnke had a gallon of whiskev and gave him lots of that to drink and we all drank some. The next dny they were drinking all dav, but Jahnke :! not drink much. Jahnke said to me, "We will shoot him with his own revolver." 8o he told me to get Mike's revolver and that he would get Mike pretty drunk and lie' would have him stagger iu front of me and I was to let the gun go off and shoot him. So Jahi.ke got the whiskey and Mike was dnnking and was pretty drunk. I got the revolver and put in the cartridges and was looking at it. I had H in my left hand, and I watched Mike, and I pulled the hammer back and held It with mv thumb ar.d when M'ke got in front of me I let it go. We thought the bul let hit him but I think t went under his right arm and into the wall. We went home, and in a day or two hnke came back to see Mike. He found Mike was all right He told me, "We will have lo poison him as we can not shoot him." 8" I got some corrosive sublimate and we took it out to his piace and put it in the sugar, and we put some in his coffee. He got very sick and we thought he wonld die; hut he vomited it up, jahnke to'd him that it was the whiskey that made him nick, and said lie was sick himself. The next morning we put more poison in his coffee; but every time rw would get Biclraod throw it up. and we could not poison him. Jahnke then told me, "We must shoot him with shotifun." So we came to town and we went to Newberry's and got a shot gun am! shells and Jahnke had a half a gallon of whiskey. We went out to the house and we got Mike pretty drunk. We put the gun lo lite kitchen and we said we were coin hunting. We were going to kill him that night but conclud ed to wait until morning. Bo we got tip in the morning and th first thing Mikt did was to go after his cattle, and while he who gone we planned how to kill him. He was gone a good whiw and we did not wait to eat breakfast with him, but we Ate our breakfast And when Mi it fiot back he sat down to lit fctwkfast I waited on him and after breakfast we sat down and were talking and I went Into the other room and ot the shotgun and nut a shell Into it and held It in my left " hand. Jahnke had Mike sitting a kind of with lik back to me a I cam out of tha room. Whwn I got in inaooor t puiieo. tha srun out Mid without aiming or look ing toward Mike I lie Id it in hit direction, and pulled it off, and Mike fell and Jahnke bollwred, 'Uome help hie, him i. shot."-Allioc-Herald.
