DIED: Homer T. Merriam at his home
in Wurbonnet precinct Monday May 16th
1H98 of scrofula and old age. 1 tie ser
vices were conducted by Rev. O. A.
Garton at the residence of the deceased
Wednesday at 10:oclock a. m. after
which the remains were brought to Har
risen and laid to rest ia the cemetry ad
joining the village.
Homer T. Jlerriam was born in Cov
entry, Ohio, March ltt, tie was a
oooper by trade and spent a portion of
tic early life with his Lucie, in MenUar,
Conn., as clerk in a dry -goods store.
Mr. Merriam was a cousin of ex-govjr
nor Merriam of Minnesota-
Mr. Merriam. was married at the age
of 24 years to Miss Nancy Carpenter in
Ohio. He came to Illinois about 40
years ago living there about 10 years
and spending the remainder of his life in
Iowa and Nebraska.
There are five children who survive the
deceased, two sons and three daughter;
R W. Merriam of Millageville, 111.,
James and Elsie of this county, Mrs. Alice
R Kruger of Prime Ntb., and Mrs. F.
D. Smith of Deadwood S. D., also he tins a
brother living in Ohio and half brother in
Kansas.

will be ready to do business before many

Will Gerlach, left last Friday at
noon for Douglas, Wyo., where he goes
to clerk in the grocery store of J. K.
Merrit Certainly no better young man
in all this country could have been
found by Mr. M. of Douglas, who would
be as trusty and attentive to his inter
ests as Will Gerlach, and we believe he
will never have reason to regret his
choice.

of prosecuting witness.
Hlacksmithing and other kinds of
business here are just grand. Such a
boom? Surely all the people are not
bound for funerals!
Thousands of acres of furtile lands
here only awaiting the husbaodmans ar
rival. Even-thing goes on same as it did six
thousand years ago and there is-nothing
new under the sun except some might
have new babies or perhaps a new wife.
Harrison now is supposed to have
no saloon but some get intoxicated yet

Some Plain Facts.
Grave errors, injustice, wrongs of
gTeater or less degree, arise from lack
of knowledge of the truth, and mere
