Iast year was one of extreme nnd continuous drouth mid yet a great many fields or :il falfn were cut four limes aud the entire yield was seven to ten tons of excellent hay to the acre and this without nny ir ripition whatever. Hay is worth $4 to if.") jier ton. Homo fields were cut twice for hay und once for seed. Seed was lijjht last year, the yeild heing only four to six bushels per acre. Nice cleun seed is worth p) er bushel. Take hay, seed and pasturage und it is reasonably safe ti) reckon 11 season's growth of alfalfa at fi't to $40 an acre per year. Eij;ht acres kept twenty head of rattle and horses from April 1st to June 1st when they were turned off. July 12th a crop of hay was cut nnd the last of September a seed crop, nnd then pastured throiiKh Octolier and NovemW. One acre of al falfa is worth two of red clover for hogs or stock of nny kind, A Kod many fields sown lust spring ielded three good crops of hay last year. I sowed live acres tho first of July and cut it tho 6th of August and it was twenty inches high. This was sown on pruirie upland where it is 200 feet to water. The hay retains the nutritive properties to ft remunera tive degree. About as line beef us I ever wiw was fattened entirely on alfalfa hay.
