' from this county by ex-County Attorney

him. It has draggeil along on the dock
'et for years but never came to a hearing
' in this county. As soon as it is taken to
'arlother county it is lieard and the coun

'peculiar and the commissioners and
ICounty Attorney Guthrie might do well
' to foo'k into the case.

The sheriff of Box Butte county and
"Scrub Peeler" arrested Charles 0. llal-
'lida3T at the house of Charley Hall on
'Siike Creek, in' Sioux county, a few
tHys ago. and delivered him to the otfi
'cers of Colorrdo w ho have wanted him
'for about two years on a charge of nis
'tling. The of'icers reached! the house as
'l heir man was at breakfast and "Scrub
"Peeler" covered him with his gun and
Jtold him to consider himself under, ar
Vest. The door was slammed in the sher
ilfs face and when he got in a few sec
'ondi later the wife of the prisoner was
'holding a 44 on bis assistant. After
'some difficulty the prisoner was ironed
'fcul taken to the Colored lins and (';
furered to the ollicers of that state and
'lus 'captors received a re war J of
'it is over with now but it was a close
call," for if any of those people had got
'nervous and pulled the trigger during
'the scene at Hal I'm place, Sioux county
1 would have had the costs of a trial to
'bear.

Chadron is again stirred up over the
prospects of securing a sugar factory.
ISo much has been said on that subject
"that its mention is liable to raise the
'horse laugh, but the people of Chadron
'recognize that unless something is se
cured which will enable the farmers to
'make a living a great many will have to
'leave and there is not enough people in
Hbe country tributary to ihe town to
'keep it up to what it is, with no pros
pect of advancement, so it is practically
la life and death struggle on the part of
'Chadron. The same is true of all north
west He'oraska. The rush out of the
"country is past but still the decrease in
"population continues and will continue
Ho a considerable extent if something
'more certain of yielding a living to the
farmers than that of raising grain on
'bind' that' cannot' lie irrigated is not de
mised, and the sugar beet industry stems
o offer the best chance of relief.
A good deal of figuring is being ns to
the coming congressional campaign in
' "the sixth district. Based on the result
Vjf the last election the prospects are
"very largely in favor of republican suc
cess, and therein lies the greatest danger
to the party. The factr is that many
who have been in the ranks of the popu
list party for years saw the there was
ttotbing to be gained in the way of re
form by following the lead of those in
fcootrol of that party, and on tlie other
ImmmI thrrepublican nominees were men
