ThUKSDAY, pEfW 4.EY 2", lfl.V There is now an Australian machine f.jr starting horse in a rare. t seems that the people of that country have a faculty of gettiog up good things. Uids for stone for the foundation of t lie factories to be erected are already advertised. That indicate tha it will not be long until tha good result will Ik felt by the people of that city and it will rapidly extend over the entire terri tory from which products can be ship ped. The Chadron Jt'rnal is preparing to ivstie a special eJition in the near future which will be devoted largely to descrip tion of north wot Nebraska and the advantages offered to people of the east. C)f course Chadron and Dawes county will have front seat;', but what benefit that part of ths state is bound to help Sioux county to some extent. Senator Dolpii of Washington was de feated a few days ago by O. W. McBride. It is claimed to be a victory for the sil ver element of tbe republican party of tliat stata. Bimetalism is framing strength and If no wildcat measures are allowed it will continue to grow. In England and Oermany it is be in;,' agitat ed more than ever before. Internation al bimetalism will yet become a fact. The case of fraud in the matter of relief are becoming numerous. In some pUfssa those who applied for and received relief have been found to possess good hank accounts. In another place a man refused to cut wood on shares and then applied for charity coal. Two men worked the people of Platte county, Mo., for two car-loads of goods and a lot of money and appropriated all to their own use. One of them returned to the place and was strung up and whipped and then told to make himself scarce. He obeyed. The claim that uader the present law (lie public funds are deposited in the very hanks which are the most likely to go under Is a reasonsufflcient fur its re peal. Drowning men catch at straws, failing banks catch whatever they can. If the bid of a bank is ignored by the treasurer a great roar it made of favor itism and people will not believe that he did it for the protection of the public. Under the present law the treasurer is not liable on his bond for the funds lost by the failure of the bank holding pub lie funds. The present law is bad. The Wasliington ball at the court house on last Friday evening was a de cided success. The attendance was not so large ns on the occasion of the masquerade but enough were present to fill the floor full enough for comfort. The music was furnished by an orches tra from Fort Robinson. It was well executed and the only objection toil was that it was most to strong for the size of the room. A jolly go.nl lime was had by all until near morning. The ladies who got up tle bull are ent.tled M credit for the efforts made. The hall whs nicely decorated and every arrange ment possible made for the pleasure of the participants. A bill is pending before the legislature providing for the examination of attor neys by the supreme court and making the reruiremnl much more strict than t present. A number of lawyer from different places met in t'hadron a few days ago and in speaking of tliu bill ex pressed the hope that if. would become a law. Good lawyers, like '- linkers, want the law strict, for it makes it bet ter for all. The law should b; so (rain ed sui to make a high moral standard necessary- for admission to tbe bar. Much is said about tricky lawyers but the fact is that there is no profession which calls for so high a standard of in tegrity as does that of law, and a man who will attempt anything dishonest or dishonorable in the practice should be disbarred and disgrace" I. The Pvwer InsMe A Plato! The general notion of what happens in tha interior of the piano when the finger press a key may be conveyed in the simplest terms. Would you believe that the power developed when tbe strings of your piano are tuned to the proper pitch equals energy sufficient to raise twelve tons one foot from the ground? If it over has been your mis fortune to lie present when the string frame of a piano was fractured, the above statement will require r.o con firmation.
