charge of his campaign.
It its said that out of three hundred
vote in Alliance the pops will get about
85, and in the country precincts of Box
Butte county some who have been the
leaders of the third party have taken a
firm stand on the republican platform.
The World-Herald prints a sermon
preached by Rev. W. J. Bryan in defense
of the fusionists, and another in the
same column by Rev Caldwell in d-lense
of Judas Iscariot. There is something
strikingly appropriate in the coinci
. dence. Cbadron Record t (dem.)
Allen, Bryan, McKeighan, Kem, Hol
cotnb, and the balance of that aggrega
tion of jawstniths are not the men who
give work and employment to honest
labor The man who votes for them
ought to be consistent and apply to them
for employment. Alliance Crnp(dem).
A poll of Custer county, the home of
Holcomb and Kem, shows a dimunition
of the populist vote by 828, a gain of 3
for the republicans and a loss of 20 for
toe democrats. Where does pop success
appear in the face of that sort of a fact?
Fremont Tribune.
The democrats of the northwest legis
lative districts held their conventions at
Chadron last Friday evening and II. A.
Cox was nominated for representative
and J. W. OwenB for senator. Both
candidates reside in Chadron. Alvin T.
Clark, of this county, was chairman of
tlie senatorial convention.
The scheme to have John II. Powers
and the other two men on the pop ticket
for whose places others were named at
Bryan"g convention withdraw, did not
work and the result will be that all will
make the race. It will be a surprise if
the pops who are honest in w hat they
profess do not very sharply resent the
shabby treatmeat accorded Powers.
Secretary of State Allen has decided
that the ticket put up by the democrats
who bolted the Bryan-fusion convention
connot be put on the official ballots as
the democratic state ticket. The secre
tary stated ih his decision that he had no
right to consider the politics of the men
od the ticket The case will lie fought
still further by the men in charge of it
as it is considered that if it is lost it
means that the democratic party of
Nebraska has been delivered bodily to
the populists and that it will have to be
entirely re-organized. The condition
shows that Bryan's personal ambition
was much stronger than his demo racy.
The business men of the state are or
giwising for the purpose of showing to
tbe people of Um state that it will be
4ietrin4MtaI to the business interests of
nil to eiect a populist governor. It is
not a gang of office-seekers who have
been disappointed jn their attempt to get
into a high place but it is the hard

In opening his seech at Lincoln las'

the people on the political sitintion in
several states: "I have been in Missouri
and Kansas for 30 hours. 1 have ient

Nebraska. I have met thousands, yes !
tens of thousands of people, and the

The people are eager to vole this year;
they are eager to vote for their homes

The Irrigation Mnvrinent.
The irrigation movement is accumu
lating a tremdous iniielus, which is
visible not alone in the west, but
throughout the country. The work ol
organization and agitation, through na
tional, inter state, state and county as
sociations, will go forward w ith renewed
energy from now until the next great
international congress assembles at Al
buquerque, New Mexico, in the autumn
of lf8.-. That this movement is the
hope of prosperity of millions and that it
will safeguard our institutions with a
new bulwark of liberty, in the form of
small landed proprietors, is the confident
expectation of western men. Their ap
peal is to patriotism and the best spirit
of humanity. They seek to build to the
credit of their country, to the good of
their race, to the glory of God. From
"Progress of Irrigation Thought in the
West," by William E. Smythe, October
Review of Reviews.

To remove the constipated habit, tlie
only safe treatment is a course of Ayer's

therefore leading physicians recommend
Ayer's Pills, especially as a family physic.
