HSAI' SHUTS.
It was no ring convention.
E. J. Wilcox made a good chairman1
It was hard to li net men who could
spare the time to go to conventions as
delegates.
In Henry Covey the party has a chair
man of honesty, energy and ability.
The republican party will have no
county ticket in Sioux county this fall.
There was an attempt made to get the
political corpse on the state delegation,
but it proved a dismal failure.
The only ritle in the deliberations of
the convention was caused by John W.
Hunter, of Bodarc precinct. For years
he has manipulated the primaries of that
prcciii'jt so that hu has come to the con
vents as a delegate ami by his actions
has lost more votes to the republican
party than be even made lor it. The re
publicans of Ins precinct decided to make
a change and at the primary J. C. Eber
sjweher and L. ('. l'liilhps were elected
delegates to the county convention.
The latter could not attend so Hunter
llxed up credentials for Eberspecher anil
himself. The Vouimittuo investigated
the matter and discovered the crooked
w ork and did uot report to admit Hunter.
That individual then attempted to bull
doze the chairman and tho convention,
becoming profane and vulgar although
repeatedly requested to come to order.
It linally ecamu necessary for Slienlf
Dew to inform him that he had gone far
enouyh, and Hunter left the hull fol
lowed by the applause of the convention.
IUer hu returned and announced that he
was no longer a republican and demanded
that his name be stricken from the roll
of republicans. For that the republican
uartv can congratulate itself. And the
convention is ciiLjtled to the thanks of
all honest republicans lor saying by their
unanimous vote that crooked primary
work will not be upheld by the republi
cans of Sioux county.

For Irrigation Laws.
A meeting of the legislative com
mittee of the Northwest Nebraska Irri
gation Association was held at Harrison
on Tuesday. All the counties in the
district belonging in the association ex
cept Sheridan, was represented.
The committee organized by deciding
by vote that tbe ollicers of the associa
tion bo the oMieers of the committee.
M. J. Blevvett, of Harrison, was made
temporrry secretary. Secretary Sheldon
being absent.
A good deal of discussion was indulged
in of an informal nature as to tbe best
means to advance the irrigation interests
of the state. It was (iually decided that
the liest results could be obtained by a
meeting of representatives of the vari
ous parts of the state.
A committee consisting of Hon. F. M.
Broome, of Alliance, O. J. (irable, of
Crawford, and R. B. Gregg, of Marslatid,
was appointed to correspond with other
irrigation associations, boards of trade
and others interested in tbe matter and
arrange for a meeting at such time and
place as they shall liml most suitable,
for tbe purpose of drafting a billon the
subject of irrigation which will cover
the legal wants of the entire stale.
