At tbe last session of district court here Mr. Hull was given fifteen days in which to file an amended petition. A paper was filed before the expiration of the fifteen days. It was vended by L. O. Hull, but is signed by no one. It says "comes now the above named plaintiff, Lorenzo O. Hull, by W. IL Westover, his attorney," but there is no signature to the docu ment. The papfir Is in the handwriting of A. W, Crit, but tluvt gentleman has evidently tired of Hull's cases as he scratched his name out as an attorney in the ca.se. Thus ends Mr. Hull's vision of $5,000.00 damages. On last Fridty a suit was brought in the count court by fi. A. Beers against Jacob Henry, for damage done to tlie crops of the former by tlie stock of tlie latter. There was no contest as to tlie damage having been done or the amount claimed, but the defendant set up tlie plea that the herd law was inoper ative in Sioux county, and that free range was the law. The court decided that herd law was in force in Sioux county and gave judgment for the plain tiff. That is one decision on that point Several rases have been brought where jpnin jniirhJjavf JbMvrai b"tl" or aw Wuim. TU LIST. The 4th of Nsveniber will prove that tbe author of that article did not size matters up correctly. Strayxdor Stouw Ffbm my prem ises on Squaw creek, on Sunday, Oct. 12, 1880, one bay mar with whfte star in forehead, blind in both eyes, aged about 12 years. Had a rope around her neck mod light chain attached; John Webbs. , Coroner Shafer brought us a basket of potatoes yesterday. They were of the Early Rose and Blue Victor vaiieties and were fine, large specimens, many of them weighing over a pound each. Dr. Shafer says he has over a hundred bush els of them. Mrs. C. M. Woodward filled the ap pointments advertised, and was greeted by fair audiences, except at Warbonnet, Where a misunderstanding in regard to tbe date prevailed. Those in charge of the amendment campaign believe that a good deal was accomplished by Mrs. Woodward. A pretended correspondent of the gang organ wonders why Conley does hot own ud that he lied and swore raiseiy In regard to his assevment A man does not own up to an act which be did not perform. Had Mr. Conley sworn to the assessment he would have simply certi fyed to the truth. This issue of The Journal contains a four-page supplement made up of po litical matter. It is good, straight doc trine and is entirely composed of facts and figures, tiive it a careful pe rusal and see if it does not demonstrate that the best thing that can be don is to lct tbe republican ticket J. W. Scott informs us that cattle and bones ars bothering him a good deal. He has his feed put up for his town stock for the winter and he objects to having it eaten and destroyed by lock belonging to other people. Own ers of stock should take case of their animal. The farmers have got no more feed than they need, and' trouble Will . surely follow if it is destroyed by stock running at large day and night -Thasftiswedby theHeraM Pnb lishinsT Company, of which D. P. Darts , to "sJvisory" member, says about the Usae Conley says he owned a lot of katxl fcpd property in Custer county tss was working on a B. sV M. railroad dump, that would bs no discredit if it was the truth for the money ha earned by hosHwt toil paid hi debts so that no Judgment followed him to Stout county, as was Ucm wi& the 'rUwry" nT4bwr of ttts ihraM PabUsmteg Company. ... , , mi tbe law has always avoided that point. Tbe case of Beers vs. Henry will go to the district court, where a decision will be asked on the same point. I There are three candidates in the Held fof county attorney. D. P. Davis, the gang candidate, has never tried a case in court that we can learn of; L. O. Hull, the democratic, assistant-gang can didate, has commenced a number of suits within tlie past year, but none have been kept in court and brought to trial; H. T. Conley, the republican nominee, has a larger law practice than all the other attorneys in the county combined, and at the last term of the district court he won every case in which he appeared, which came to trial. It fs about time that Sioux county had a county attor ney who is willing and competent to look after the interests of tlie county as thev should be, and the election of H. T. Conley will insure such results. Tbe gang organ is filled with all sorts of charges and cracks without any foundation in fact. The few of the old gang who remain realize that it is a des perate battle they have to fight. They know that if they do not succeed in get ting some one whom they can "work" into the county offices to be rilled this year that it will be decidedly unpleasant for them. They know that if Conley is elected county attorney he will prose cute violations of the law and that his papers and court work will be such that it will hold. They know that a number of the old gang do not desire to go into court to answer for their past action. They escaped on the 9th of January, 1800, by a close shave ; from being taken in hand by the people, and at the spring term of the district court they dodged a grand jury on a technicality. Davis has never had any experience in the prac tice of law and Hull has established a reputation for not being able to keep a case in court, even if be has to withdraw the suit, ai he did in the case of tbe sal ary matter against Walker. Tbe gang does not want Wilcox elected because be would work for the interests of the county and not (or the interests of the gang. To get fellows in office that can bs controlled by the gang has been the end thev have worked for. The demo crats put Hull on for bounty attorney and Konrath for commissioner in the hops that it would ttsaist in defeating Conley and Wilcox. Hull will get few rotes aoi the plan was to catch too Ger man rote by -putting Konrath up for comnMooer. The piaa shows the work of Battertes and In-order to still more add to the effect on the Germans they put L. Oerlach and Cliaries Blehls on their central committee. The former declines kt public card and it is well known that the latter is not a democrat The voters are onto the litU game of UMraarvand wiir defeat their scheme ssrtUesr b IHss at the peUe. t a f a hf Hi nr .
