V I n M C V lnDTAspedfkfor' Rheumatism MPD.iMJlA and Kidney Diseases. Protestantism, a Leprosy. A bishop of the Roman Mission in Ireland, Dr. Donnelly, claiming to be the Bishop of Clogher, recently paid an official visit to Eoniskillen, where he informed his enlightened flock that Freemasons were "an emanation of the evil one," He also described Protes tantism as a "leprosy." Our able con' temporary, the Imptrtial Reporter, En niskillen, in a temperate but convinc ing article, has replied to the charges of this intolerant prelate. The article will be found in the issue of the 20th ult., and is worth reading. After show ing what this "Protestant leprosy" has done for Italy, the centre of papal power; for England, whose missionaries are planted amongst the darkest heathen, converting cannibals, like the Islanders of Fiji, to be emissaries of the Cross; what it has done in the great republic of the west, in Norway, in the Protestant cantons of Switzerland and elsewhere our contemporary asks the following questions: "It is a strange fact that civil and re ligious liberty have prospered under Protestant rule. Only this very year people were punished In Spain for wor shipping according to the reformed faith, while in Protestant England and Protestant America the Roman Catho lic church enjoys much greater liberty than she does in Catholic France or Catholic Italy. Where do the Irish Roman Catholics emigrate to? To Protestant countries." The writer goes on to say: "Speaking of Ireland, can his lord ship explain how it is that there is more crime, more pauperism and more outrages among the 'faithful' in the!
