Another red rag to Dm Humans was
found lying on tho show caso of Henry
ffurlnir'a drug store. Henry Is one of
those enterprising young druggists
tvho attended the American l'haruia
feutlcul Association, and while he was
there, the hotel that entertained the
association, had a somewhat extensive
liill of faro printed and headed the
aper A. I', A., meaning, of course,
the association for which the bill of
furo wns printed. Henry brought one
. of those bill home with him to let his
friend know how well he had been
living while he was gone, and laid tho
bill on his show euse. Hut In a short

THAT ENCYCLICAL,
Evident Calculated to Prove its Au
thenticity. Many people have asked us In regard
to an article published under the head
of "Loo's Address" two or three weeks
ago, "l it true?" It can't be. Surely It
must bo an exaggeration. Wherodld
you get It?" etc., and for the benefit of
these "doubting Thomasses" we will
ay that the extract was taken, word
for word, from en encyclical sent by
Pope Leo to the church dignitaries of
this country, and sent secretly at that,
Certain Ilomlsh prelates have seen fit
to deny that Leo sent this letter re
forced to, but that their declarations
are false is proved, not only by the
manner In which the message was first
obtained by Protestants, but also by
xisting circumstances today. The
first patriotic organ to publish said let
ter in this country, was tho Patriotic
American, of Detroit, Mich., and since
then different patriotic organs have
used It as they have seen fit, The let-
tor was written and sent to this count ry
In December, 1!M and many copies of
it sent to priests and bishops through
out the country. In all cities looal
Driest have received copies of it, awl
t hough they deny it, It remains true
nevertheless. Honed let Arnold would
bavo denied contemplating proving
traitor to his country had he been ap
proached upon th subject before his
West Point escapade. Recent dis
coveries bear out tho statement that
the letter Is genuine. A short time ago
Bishop Spaulding, of Peoria, received
a consignment of (supposed) wine. The

Address to Orangemen.
An address to the Ornngeineii of Ire
laud bus been Issued by the (irnnd
Orange lodge, signed by the earl of
Erne as Imperial grand muster. It
states that there never has been a morn
critical period in Die history of the
country than the present, and that It is
deplorable that the destinies of Dm
British empire should at present bo in
tho bands of men who are pledged to
Its dlsmemls'i'ini'iit. Recent events
have proved that tho tyranny of Ho-
mlsh ecclesiastics Is In full force, to the
subversion of all Independent life on
tho part of those whom they have the
power to sway, nor was it obscurely
shown what Protestants might look for
ward to endure If an Infatuated political
party was allowed to unmake tho eon
stltutlon. For six years Ireland had
peace murders, moonlighting assass
lnatlon and boycotting ceased. Since
tho advent of Mr. (Jludstono to power,
however, hope had revived In the con
olaves of conspirators, and those who
lived by troubling tho land are already
showing activity at tiicir evil trade.
During the whole of tho agitation f
one Dumlir or mitrmjc bad boon brought
borne to uny single momlstr of the
Oranin association. With regard to
Home Huh; the address counsels the
brethren to stand together, adding that
It may not lie needful to repeat the
deeds (lone when Durry was defended
but they were ready to do a their fore
fathers hnd done rather than submit to
the Homlsli hierarchy. Prom,

llerodltary clorgymen are not un
common in all religions, according to
Chambers' Journal. A very promi
nent family among the Jews the
Adlers. have long held high rank in
their church. In tho last century
nourished the Kabbl lleor Adler. lie
was father of Morduiai Adler chief
rabbi of Hanover whose son,
Dr. 1! Adler, having boon for some
years delegate chief rabbi of Kngland,
has now succeeded his rather. thus
four generations of the Adlor family
have held the rabbinate, and a pass
atre In the will of IV. Nathan Adlor
points to there being still another
generation In the person of the son
of tho prosent chief rabbi, carrying
on. the priestly traditions of the
family. In the church of Homo tho
celibacy of the clergy prevents the
direct transmission of tho priostly
olllee, but there are numerous families
for Instuncfl, the Vaughnns, to
which the archbishop of Westminster
belong In which one or more mem
bers of several generations havo be
como clergymen. The present Car
dinal Moran. of Sydney, Is nephew
and' heir of the late Cardinal Cullea
of Dublin, and no loss than twenty
seven of his near relative are priests
la Ireland, America, und the colonic.
In tho church of J nglaud such
caes aro very common. me
clerical family of Collins was
founded In 1.W.J by Kov. Kdwurd I ol-
lins rector of Illogan, In Cornwall
For hi years his direct descendants
woro rectors of the same parish,
Slnco then -the Collin family has
given over a hundred rectors and
1 1cars to the church, Itev. Stephen
Newcomo became curate of Glrton In
lOiio. Ills son Stephen lei L several
children, three el whom became
clergymen, From tho oldost of these
sons descended Daniel Newcomo.
dean of Gloucester; William New
come, areiiuihop of Armagh ana a
number of rectors and vicars.
From the second of the three broth
ers also descended clergymen of the
established church, while from the
third, llonry Newcome, of Manches
ter, the colebrated presbyteriaa
minister, and e.ected vicar of (Jaws-
worth, descended a line of clergy
that even now, after a lapse of a
couple of hundred years, is lo ft
flourishing condition,
Two brothors, George and Kdward
Bynge, were respectfully bishops of
Cloyne and Cork during the seven
teenth century. In tto noxt genera
tion two of the sons of Itlshop Kdward
became, the one dean of Klldare. the
other archbishop of lunrn The
archbishop's two sons became bishop
of Klphln and bishop of Klllaloe.
The bishop of Klllaloe died In 1771,
when the episcopal honors of the
family ceased, though soveral later
mombers were clorgymen. In mod
ern times there have been la England
three fumllies who havo devoted
themselves to the church and have
doservodly attained high rank in It.
These families are tho Wllborforces,
Wad s worths and Islckersteths. The
first Is of quite recent clerical origin,
but already Includes two bishops.
The second Includes a dean of Christ
church, a bishop of Lincoln, a bishop
of St. Andrews and bishop of Salis
bury. To tho third belonged tho lato
bishop of Klpon. the bishop of Kx
eter, tho bishop of Japan, Kdward
Blckersteth, an evangelical preachor
of considerable eminence, and thf
dean of Lichfield.
