The Lengue of the Sacred Heart.
1 the proper name of tho apostleshlp of
prayer as an association. It is distinct
In end, nu Hii and organization, from
the confraternity.
It associates league together In cer
tain easy but strong devotions to tho
Sacred Heart of Jesus, for obtaining
III and their own intentions, thus
practising an apostleshlp of prayer.
It number 15,000 associates In all
parts of tho world.
Its motto Is Thy Kingdom Come,
IU exterior sign Is tho badge.
(ts devotion are tho three degrees
1st. At the morning prayers to con
sccrBte tho day, it prayers, works, and
sufferings, to tho Sacred Heart. This
morning offering 1 the ono duty of all
associates.
2nd. The daily rosary decade (1 Ono
Father, 10 Hall Maries, 1 Glory.) Those
who practise this, form rosary liands.
Jlrd, A monthly or weekly com
munion of reparation for sins against
our Ixird.
Tho 2nd and 3rd degrees suppose the
1st, but aro not Imposed on all. They
are strongly recommended, and, like
the Jst, have heavy Indulgences.
Admission requires a priest a direc
tor In charge of a centre aggregated by
diploma. He appoints lay promoters
who regularly, under him, see to the
admission of new associates, and keep
them In bands; after six months, pro
moters' names are m nt to tho head
director, who confer a diploma and
cross, cntitlinir to 2'i plenary in
dulgences yearly.
I. Each associate's name must be
registered at tho centre.
II. Each association must receive a
certificate of admission procured from
the head director.

of requiem. Tho body of Wogan, tho

who was shot while ejecting ono of his
victims, has been burled with full re

Truly Romanism Is a cage of every un
clean and hateful bird. Some Roman
Catholic priests will oven go so far as
to exclude Grand Army posts from
their cemeteries on Memorial day, al

It Is noticeable that tho Omaha con
vention called for restricted Immigra
tion In a way that showed Its earnest
ness, says the St. Paul Viower 'rew.
Tho same demand has been beard again
and again, from ono state and another,
through the regular platforms of tho
old parties. Koine day, not so far In tho
near future, we aro going to wako up
and find this an issue, Fortunate then
will bo tho politician who has made his

There can be no more politic act for a

himself squarely upon the platform of

Our advice to Grovcr Cleveland Is to
stop writing letters laudatory of Homan
Catholic Archbishops, and at tho same
time prcclalmlng himself a l'resby
terian. What Is needed In tblscoun
try Is more Americanism and less
nandcrlnir to tho Homan Catholic
church. Other churches neither ex
pect nor ask it and that alien political
combination does not deserve any
recognition whatever at tho bands of
thl Government or It officials, and
tho man or party who assists or In any
way countenances their treasonable ac
tion should bo sat down upon by tho
American people. lhmlzihik Olmcrrer.

The reason for tho suspicion toward
Homan papacy is not hidden In a bay
mow, nor would it take a field-glass to
discover that Americans In tho major
ity dread Home because her spirit,
traditions and present tendency run
counter to tho highest Americanism.
