Mr. Draper took for his subject "The Duty of the State in Relation to the Kindergarten." Mr. Hughes' subject was "Spontaniety and Control." Alternate Nevln's Claim. Washington, July 15. Robert M. Nevin of Dayton, O., an alternate-at-large to the national Republican con vention, has raised a very novel issue in regard to the making up of the official record of ths Republican national con vention. It will he recalled that on the first ballot at Minneapolis the vote of , Ohio was announced as 44 for McKinley and i for Harrison. At the time it was understood generally among the Ohio people that ex-Congressman Boothman, acting aa Governor McKinley's alter nate, cast one of the votes for the presi dent. But Mr. Nevin disputes this claim. He has written to M r. Charles W. Johnson, who as secretary of the convention, to have the record corrected so that it will show that he was Gov ernor McKinley'a alternate, and that he cast his vote for Mr. Harrison, But Mr, Nevin does not stop at this. He claims' that when the vote was an nounced he got up in hia seat and Itated to the convention that he was one of those who voted for Harrison. He also insists that th.d be given a place in the records. . Secretary Jackson has been investi gating the matter and finds that all the official stenographers claim that Mr. Nevin did not make a speech, and thHt there was no such assertion as he de scribed, Mlnnasota People's Party. Sf. Paul. July 15. The People's Party atate convention completed its ticket, but did not take up the matter of fusion with the Democrats. This was on th t , advice of Mr. Donnelly, and the subject I will probably be considered later by the Democratic ana peoples committees. The state ticket is as follows: Governor Ignatius Donnelly, Lieutenant Governor Kittle llalver- ten. Secretary of State H. B. Martin, Treasurer P. M. Ringdal. ' Attorney General John L. McDonald. .'yx: of buirfcUiu C:urt Tlnmni Oantv, Danibi k D:;ck and W. F. Davidson. It is ex pected the Democrats will en dorse McDonald, Canty and Buck at tpeir convention in August. During the noon recess, the delegates from the Third, Sixth and Seventh congressional districts met and decided upon a school bouse canvass to ascertain the strength of the paity, I'emoeratto Committee or. tiers. Washington, July 11, Senator Brice, chairman of the Democratic national committee, was seen by a representative of the United Press in regard to the re port that he would continue as chair nan uf the committee. He said that be . wus in New York a week ago and it was pretty well understood that Mr. Harrlty of Pennsylvania would be chair man of the national committee, and Josiah Quincy, Jr., of Massachusetts would be chairman of the campaign committee. The matter of the chair mauihip and the committees will be discussed further at the meeting which takes place in New York next week, but he is of the opinion that officers will be given as above. t ' I.awo Tenuis Championship.
