Tbe game condition prevaiUd largely all wver the etate, Ilad the Democrat tuck to their party wo would have had an easy victory. lint it provea that there .an be but one goldbug party In the taio or nati on. It altto proves there can be but one party for the people. The object ieaaon' given to ua by tle esutern Shylocks and the panic through which we are juat pawing aeems insufti dent to bring the voters to their sense. It will take another twist of the vise before the masaea can gee where reHefHea. To suppose that relH can r will come by pursuing the same snarse or following the same channel that baa brought ab)ut the present soadttlon, Is to me the bight of folly. I feel more convinced that ever before af the oorrectneas of our plea, and that relief from the grasp of the money power w on'y be bad by the masses getting together in the Popullat party and car tying it to success. I am In no way depressed by our seeming, defeat. It cannot be expected that we are yet strong enough to overthrow the two old partita when tbey combine against ua But by keeping op the fight and by ereaviog our claims before the people 1 am satisfied that the better element of people will soon see that their own and the nation's interests can be secured only by their voting for the principles f the reform party. The vote of the Democratic party hai so dwindled down in the last two elec tions that it can hardly be said that tbey ooupy a place in the politics of the ' state. Two years ago they bad a plu rality; but now they only poll about :. ewe-half as much as the Independents. " And yet you hear the cry "The Inde pendents are dead." No, no, they are act dead, nor dying, but are alive for evermore, until oppression Is driven from our land and this country shall be the land of the free as well as the home (the brave. How a Democrat can lick the band that has smitten him all these years, is a spectacle that would almost make angels weep; yet we find them doing so by the thousands. Can it be possiblo that they are so harmed by the siren song of their old political enemies, that they are led on Id their ewn destruction? I am lt d to believe that they will yet see their fate before it ia too late, and break the spell aad come in out of the wet, ere they are stuck in the quagmire of monomot nlllwu. 1 want to say to the friends of reform, close up the ranks, buckle on your ar saor anew ; press the battle to the very gates of the enemies of free govern ment. Let it never be said that the American people are unable to legislate la thoir own behalf without first oon 'sulking the old country. I pray God to avert the struggle and give us access to tbe hearts of the people that they may turn from their party idols to serve tbe interest of our common country. In ordr that we may the more quickly succeed in combining all elements tlat are opposed to tae machinations of the money power, I am in favor of dropping evervthlne that is not of direct vi al interest ai d concentrate our whole tf fort upoa the question of finance. F( r to my mind if we bad a proper financial system established in this country tbe other questions tbat we contend for would measurably regulate themselves. Take the tariff, for instance. Give me money enough and I can easily pay my share of the tariff. But if I have no money it matters little to me whether the tariff is high or low, 1 could not liy it. I think the subtreasury plsn would sink into lnslgnlSo too if the fl nance question was settled right. Let us adopt as our battle cry ' Free coin age of silver at 16 to 1 ; our money ssued only by the government, and all such money a legal tender for all debts, and tbe destruction of all monopolies and combinations that work against the interest of the masses." When these are settled we can give attention to other things as they may appear and dUpose of them In the light of future development. J, H. DARMEK. Cozad, eb. : , ,.
